Bungie Made A Mistake, But Destiny 2 Players Can Keep Their Shiny New Weapons

Earlier this week, the Guardian Games in Destiny 2 kicked off for the year 2025, but the event wasn’t the only surprise. By mistake, Bungie released some of their Rite of the Nine activities ahead of schedule during the latest update. However, the positive aspect is that players will be able to retain any weapons they obtained by completing those activities.

In simple terms, the developers on Bungie’s official website stated that the accidental leak of Rite of the Nine activities in Update 8.2.5 was due to the whim of a mysterious entity known as the Nine. They further clarified that these leaked activities were in an extremely preliminary stage, featuring temporary visuals and placeholder perks. The developers promised that the final versions of these activities will be polished and optimized for the Explorer, Eternity, and Ultimatum game modes.

Fortunately, Bungie took the mistake in stride and assured players that the early-bird weapons wouldn’t be taken away from anyone’s collection. However, they plan to tweak these weapons slightly to avoid any exploitative combinations. The modified weapons will become accessible when Rite of the Nine goes live, which should occur following the start of Heresy Act III.

In the interim, those taking part in Guardian Games can explore the fresh boss rush mode called Rushdown. A new player-versus-player (PvP) mode titled Heavy Metal is also on its way during Heresy Act III, offering players a firsthand experience of piloting a Brig. Furthermore, Bungie has offered additional details about the upcoming Rite of the Nine event.
