This movie shares connections with Marvel as it’s directed by the Russo brothers, known for their work on various Marvel Cinematic Universe films. It stars Chris Pratt, who is popularly recognized as Star-Lord, Giancarlo Esposito, playing Sidewinder, and Anthony Mackie, stepping into the role of the latest Captain America.

In the film, there’s an instance where Marvel interacts with The Electric State through a subtle nod to Scarlet Witch, but to delve into the details of this scene, it’s important to discuss it in depth. Therefore, please be warned that SPOILERS follow…

Marvel Easter egg in The Electric State explained

Midway through the film, at approximately the 53rd minute, Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown) and Keats (Chris Pratt) make their entrance into a deserted shopping mall, now inhabited by outcast robots. As she takes in her new environment, Michelle spots a robot with a dog’s smiling face among them.

The robot stands before a newsstand, casually propped up, engrossed in an old comic book. This particular comic is an issue of Avengers West Coast, specifically number 56 from 1990, featuring Scarlet Witch on its cover.

They have a private joke going on, since Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are the ones who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, with their upcoming projects being Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

How the comic might herald Scarlet Witch’s return

In a gripping tale I recently encountered, it’s me, a fervent fan, who found myself witnessing Scarlet Witch, our beloved hero, growing stronger than ever before and unfortunately turning against humanity. Trapped within this saga were Wonder Man, Wasp, Agatha Harkness, and USAgent, each finding themselves in dire straits.

Throughout the narrative, we got brief appearances from Iron Man, The Human Torch, and Magneto, adding intrigue to the storyline. As the tale reached its climax, it was Dr. Hank Pym who stood before Wanda, ready for a confrontation. However, just when things seemed bleakest, Quicksilver leaped into action, rescuing Scarlet Witch from the brink of conflict.

It seems clear that the topic was selected due to its relevance to the beginning of the robot war in The Electric State’s storyline, which occurred at around the same time. However, given the Russo brothers’ track record, it’s evident they have a strategic plan for their upcoming Avengers films. These movies will feature numerous superheroes clashing against Doctor Doom, with both sides potentially involved in the Secret Wars.

It seems significant that they’ve highlighted “The witch is back” so prominently on the cover, given that Wanda Maximoff was shown seemingly perishing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating her comeback, Agatha All Along seems to suggest that Wanda Maximoff continues to live, and the Russo brothers are implying “Scarlet Witch is returning.” Thus, don’t be shocked if this Easter egg foreshadows the character’s appearance in an upcoming Avengers film.
