Is Soil Hill a Real Place in Severance Season 2?

In the ninth episode of Severance Season 2, Mark finds himself in a hurry when he discovers a new location, named Soil Hill. Be advised, there are spoilers that follow!

In the most recent installment of the Apple TV+ show, we’re led towards a grand conclusion. It seems that Asal Reghabi’s scheme to flood the system with data (which only caused Mark to briefly lose consciousness) hasn’t been successful. Consequently, Devon devises a fresh strategy in response.

In the thrilling turn of events revealed in Episode 8, I discover that Ms. Cobel is the brilliant mind behind the Severance process. Seizing this unexpected opportunity, we join forces and embark on a daring journey to the Damona Birthing Retreat. Our mission: to activate Mark’s chip, enabling him to connect with his Innie in what promises to be an exhilarating adventure.

However, Milchick needs a reprieve. The urgency from Drummond for Mark to wrap up Cold Harbor, currently 96% finished, is mounting. Thus, Cobel advises him to pretend he’s unwell.

Is Soil Hill a real place?

Mark informs Milchick that he’s heading to a “hospital in Soil Hill” for an examination of his nosebleeds, but it seems this location isn’t found in reality within the United States.

In West Yorkshire, United Kingdom, there lies an often overlooked location called Soil Hill, which is not widely recognized as a popular spot for birdwatching. It holds no association with the realm of “Severance.

For the first time in the television series, this specific location is introduced, and as of now, our understanding is limited to its proximity to the fictional town of Kier, PE, where the show takes place.

After viewing Season 2 Episode 3, similar queries arose concerning Salt’s Neck, which was first introduced then. It wasn’t until Episode 8 that we gained further insights about this location; it turns out to be where Cobel spent her childhood.

Besides this, it’s important to note that Salt’s Neck suffered heavily from a drug crisis following the establishment of a Lumon ether factory there. After departing for other opportunities, Lumon left Salt’s Neck grappling with this problem.

It’s reasonable to think that Soil Hill isn’t too far from Lumon headquarters, yet distant enough that Milchick wouldn’t be able to reach it in a hurry (at the moment, Mark wants him to be kept at a distance).

With just one more episode of Severance Season 2 remaining, it appears that a visit to Soil Hill might not occur; it seems to be more of a fleeting mention (at least for now, but rest assured, Season 3 is coming up).

What does chicanery mean?

Before talking to Milchick, Cobel advises Mark to prepare a solid reason for not being at work that day because if Milchick suspects something fishy, he might prevent Mark from entering the premises. “He’ll barricade you out,” she explains.

In the novel “Severance,” some of the language may be unfamiliar, but don’t worry if that’s the case; feel free to substitute terms like “deception” or “trickery” for the term “chicanery.” This will help you better understand the book.
