Kevin Begg, the chair and chief creative officer at Lionsgate TV Group, has been appointed as the new chairman of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. This announcement was made on Thursday. Fred Cohen, who previously held this position, will continue to serve as the foundation chairman and a member of the executive committee for the International Academy.
Previously, Beggs served as the treasurer for the International Academy. However, this role is now being taken over by Bruce Tuchman, a former executive at MGM Worldwide Networks, AMC Global, and Sundance Channel Global, who previously held the position of secretary.
The President and CEO of International Academy, Bruce L. Paisner, who additionally serves as a senior advisor for Hearst Entertainment & Syndication, was the one who made these appointments.
Kevin, an esteemed figure within our industry, has been a significant contributor to the International Academy since his appointment to the Executive Committee in 2009. It’s with great pleasure that we announce he is now assuming the role of Chairman. In a statement, Paisner expressed his excitement for this collaboration and shared his anticipation for working together towards achieving the organization’s future objectives and advancements.
Regarding Cohen, he mentioned, “Fred and I have collaborated extensively at the International Academy for quite some time now. He’s consistently shown exceptional creativity and intellect in his position. I’m pleased that he’ll keep sharing his insights and institutional understanding with the International Academy.
For over two and a half decades, Beggs has led Lionsgate’s independent television sector. Most recently, he managed the merger of eOne, a company specializing in intellectual property (IP) acquisition and production, which Lionsgate bought for $375 million towards the end of 2023. Some forthcoming TV productions from Lionsgate include “The Studio,” a series produced by Seth Rogen, slated for Apple TV+.
Beggs expressed excitement about deepening his connection with this esteemed institution, whose purpose deeply resonates with him. He considers the Academy a pioneer in unearthing fresh creative talents, recognizing established ones, and providing a platform for stimulating discussions at a crucial juncture for our field. It’s a privilege to collaborate closely with Bruce and contribute to the progress the organization has made under his guidance.
