See Half-Life 2 In A Whole New Light By Playing An RTX Demo On March 18

Nvidia has officially announced that there will be a demonstration for Half-Life 2 RTX on March 18, showcasing what the original 2004 game from Valve might appear like if it were developed in 2025 instead.

Today marks the official release from beta of Nvidia RTX Remix, as demonstrated in the video below. This update brings new capabilities to Half-Life 2, such as full ray tracing and multi-frame generation, which it didn’t possess earlier. It is important to note that while the complete game of Half-Life 2 with RTX will be available in the future, this demo will only showcase the levels of Ravenholm and Nova Prospekt.

Back in 2023, a remarkable project called Half-Life 2 RTX was unveiled, not by the original creators at Valve, but by enthusiastic fans who have transformed themselves into developers at Orbifold Studios. This incredible venture is designed as a downloadable content (DLC) expansion for the authentic game, and it significantly upgrades Half-Life 2’s visuals using Nvidia RTX Remix – an open-source toolkit that allows gamers to incorporate cutting-edge Nvidia technologies like DLSS 4, RTX Neural Rendering, and Reflex into pre-existing games.

In essence, Nvidia is encouraging modders to employ RTX Remix for fan-made remasters, and Half-Life 2 RTX serves as a demonstration of what RTX Remix is truly capable of. I can’t wait to see this project unfold!

The demonstration of Half-Life 2 RTX is set to launch on Steam on the 18th of March. As announced by Nvidia, the complete version will come out at a later time. Notably, this demo will be available for free if you already own Half-Life 2 on Steam.
