Wowza! Guess what? We’ve received an exciting update on the cast for Spider-Man 4, and it’s even more significant than what Wilson Fisk usually has for his morning meal.
It’s said that Sadie Sink, famously recognized as the tomboy character Max from the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, is likely to take on a yet-to-be-disclosed part alongside Tom Holland in an upcoming project.
It’s been widely suggested in media circles and by avid superhero enthusiasts that Sink might portray either Jean Grey, a character with potent telekinetic abilities, or an alternate universe version of Mary Jane Watson.
It’s clear why some might instantly associate her with those two characters, as they share the same red hair. However, Spidey has known more than a couple of people with red hair. I believe it’s much more plausible that Sink is portraying one of his close friends, namely Firestar, who is well-known for her fiery personality.
Amazing Friends
If you missed out on watching the animated show Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends when it was airing, there’s a chance you might not be familiar with Firestar. In essence, she is a potent character who possesses the ability to manipulate fire through pyrokinesis, which is a mutant power.
In the previously mentioned TV series, she teamed up with Iceman, acting as Spider-Man’s partners, assisting him in maintaining peace and order in New York by thwarting the numerous baddies and criminals who take delight in causing chaos within the city.
As a dedicated admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement about the character who, with her captivating charm, managed to transition from the confines of the small screen to the vibrant world of comic books. Since then, she has become a recurring presence in Marvel Comics, leaving an indelible mark. Now, you might be curious about the basis for my belief that Sink will soon don her iconic yellow spandex – stay tuned, as more details are expected to unfold!
Face it, tiger… you’ve got this wrong
I appreciate your question. It’s not hard to comprehend why she’s not playing Mary Jane. Some people might find the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) version of MJ or Zendaya’s portrayal too different from the comic book character, and that could be a reason for their dislike.
Even though Marvel invested three Spider-Man films in developing this character as Peter’s love interest, they are unlikely to reverse that by introducing the “true Mary Jane” to appease only a handful of fans who struggle accepting her portrayal as a cranky brunette.
It could lead to confusion among regular viewers if there are two characters named MJ (since we know Zendaya will have a minor role in the upcoming Marvel movie), and it would be unfair to Zendaya if this were the case. On the other hand, the evidence suggesting Jean is somewhat circumstantial.
Jean Grey? More like Jean Get Outta Here…
It’s clear that Marvel has plans to incorporate more mutant characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and it seems highly probable that Jean Grey, a key figure in X-Men lore, will play a role in these upcoming developments.
Nonetheless, it’s worth noting that Jean and Peter haven’t shared extensive comic book history, limited primarily to a few uneasy encounters within the Ultimate Universe. Given the fact that this significant character introduction might seem unconventional in a movie partially owned by Sony, it’s not without some doubt.
Frankly, numerous sources claim that Sink is connected to Jean, but I find it hard to believe them. The reason being, when I think of these “scoopers,” I can’t help but associate them with something unpleasant, like waste – which is often the subject matter they discuss. However, in all honesty, fans have been suggesting Sink as a good fit for Jean for quite some time (something that both Marvel and scoopers are likely aware of), so it’s not unexpected to see her name mentioned.
You’re a star… a Firestar!
Regarding Firestar, it seems to me that she fits best for three key reasons. Firstly, her past connections with Spider-Man are well-known, which we’ve previously discussed. Secondly, considering the Disney-Marvel partnership, introducing Firestar in a film not entirely under their control seems unlikely.
In terms of narrative appeal, the third installment appears particularly captivating. Previously, we found Peter in an isolated state, forgotten by all and having given up everything for his loved ones. It seems reasonable then that Spider-Man 4 might start with Peter at a personal low, devoid of friends, family, or support. Under such circumstances, who could be more fitting to assist Peter in emerging from this slump than by bringing new, extraordinary companions into the picture!
Here’s another way of expressing it: Either she will take on the role of Gwen Stacy, or it might be that her natural talent is being overshadowed by the assumption that she can only play roles featuring red-haired characters. After all, wigs are available for a reason!
