Twitch has recently lifted the permanent ban imposed on professional Super Smash Bros player Gonzalo ‘ZeRo’ Barrios, a decision that took place around five years after the initial ban.
At the peak of his career, Zero was virtually unbeatable among Smash players who grasped a GameCube controller. An impressive streak saw him clinch an incredible 56 consecutive victories in Smash 4 on the Wii U.
As a devoted fan, I’ve got to be honest – back in 2020, my beloved gaming figure, Barrios, faced a permanent ban on Twitch due to allegations of sexual assault and misconduct leveled against him by several pros and members within the Smash community. It was a shocking turn of events that left many of us fans heartbroken.
As one of ZeRo’s previous housemates at Sky House, I’ve come forward with accusations that he displayed inappropriate, sexually explicit content towards me when I was still a minor in our shared living space. Additionally, I’ve stated that during the early stages of his relationship with Vanessa, ZeRo allegedly exhibited abusive behavior towards her.
Initially, ZeRo confessed to the sexual misconduct accusations on July 4, 2020. But later in November 2021, he disclosed that he was preparing a lawsuit against Jisu, claiming her statements contained numerous falsehoods and defamatory remarks.
About a year ago, he declared the lawsuit was resolved and was in the process of appealing his Twitch suspension. Three years following that event, as of March 12, 2025, his ban on Twitch has been lifted.

ZeRo unbanned on Twitch
Despite being barred from Twitch for a span of five years, ZeRo didn’t face a ban across all platforms and instead carried on producing content on YouTube.
Rather than spending time on Smash, Zero embarked on a remarkable physical change. Known for his prowess in Smash, this prodigy has undergone such a transformation that it’s hard to recognize him – and the reason is that he dramatically increased his weight from his previous 400-pound figure.
In a video from January 2025, Barrios shared that he had switched jobs to assist people in achieving physical transformations through local personal training and fitness goals. Since then, he’s expanded his expertise to an online platform.
Despite giving the impression that he might have completed his Smash journey, it’s important to note that wasn’t necessarily the case. In fact, in 2024, he was invited to a prestigious tournament held in the Dominican Republic alongside other top players. Surprisingly, he outperformed his own expectations at this event.
zero intends to create content associated with the upcoming Smash game on the Nintendo Switch 2, while continuing his dedication to weightlifting.
It’s not entirely clear what caused Twitch to lift the ban on ZeRo, however, on February 19th, the Amazon-controlled platform publicized some modifications regarding bans.
Specifically, the platform announced that infractions will no longer remain active permanently and indefinitely banned streamers can now apply for reinstatement.
As I write this, Barrios hasn’t publicly confirmed that he’s been reinstated on Twitch yet. With his strong emphasis on physical fitness, it remains uncertain how this situation may influence his present objectives.
