Asmongold blames himself after streamer spends thousands on fake Pokimane relationship

On the OTK’s Top Streamer show, Asmongold confessed that he felt a sense of “regret” or “remorse” for how Shelbo was portrayed, which seemed to be used for laughter, following an incident where someone deceived him by posing as Twitch star Pokimane and catfished him.

In the month of February 2025, live-streamer Shelbo became a sensation online when he announced publicly that he and Pokimane had been in a relationship for about four months. He added that they were “engaged” and planned to meet up personally to discuss their plans for the future.

For the past four months, Pokimane and I have been an item. Today marks our four-month anniversary, and we’re definitely making it special. Some might think she’s single based on her social media posts, but let me assure you, she’s off the market.

Immediately, people on the internet suspected Sherbo’s statements might be a case of catfishing, and the issue escalated to such an extent that well-known streamer Asmongold addressed it publicly.

Asmongold feels bad about “enabling” streamer catfished by Pokimane impostor

In early 2024, Sherbo took part in OTK’s Top Streamer event. Approximately a year later, Asmon expressed regret for contributing to Sherbo being exploited, stating that he was there primarily for viewers to ridicule him.

In a live stream on March 12th, I confessed that I harbored a sense of guilt for not swiftly nixing this situation, as it was an evident exploitation of a vulnerable individual. We inadvertently provided a platform where someone clearly suffering from severe mental distress could participate.

As a spectator, I can’t help but reflect on an incident where the atmosphere was filled with boisterous laughter, reminiscent of gathering around a joke that wasn’t quite right. Now, I find myself grappling with discomfort over my role in fostering such an environment. It’s a lesson learned: I vow never to repeat those actions again.

Asmongold admits feeling remorseful for not swiftly preventing the catfishing incident involving Shelbo and a fake Pokimane, as it was a clear manipulation of a vulnerable individual. We inadvertently allowed someone onto our show who was evidently untrustworthy.

As a gaming enthusiast, I spilled $500 on a journey to sunny California, all in the hope of crossing paths with Pokimane. Little did I know, this Poki doppelganger had been asking for a hefty sum during our virtual interactions.

Actually, Sherbo mentioned that the situation left him without a home. He stated that he frequently moved between hospitals to ensure he had a place to rest at night.

Up until now, Pokimane hasn’t made any statements regarding the matter, while Sherbo persists in sharing supposed conversations between him and an imposter of hers on his social platforms.

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel alarmed by the escalating incidents involving female streamers lately. Just recently, Valkyrae, Cinna, Emiru, and ExtraEmily were put in harm’s way during an IRL stream earlier this March when they were threatened and almost attacked by an enraged viewer. Coincidentally, around the same time, Amouranth was robbed at gunpoint by three masked individuals. These events underscore the need for increased safety measures within our gaming community.
