24-year-old Turkish TikTok sensation Efecan Kultur passed away in March 2025 due to issues stemming from obesity, several months following the upload of his last food-focused videos.
Cultur had gained significant popularity across various social media platforms, with a massive following of around 178 thousand on TikTok and 2.7 thousand subscribers on YouTube. He was known for sharing glimpses into his daily life and videos featuring himself consuming exceptionally large portions of food.
These types of videos are often called ‘mukbang‘ content, which is a Korean term meaning video clips where individuals record themselves consuming large amounts of food for their online audience to watch.
Culture garnered a consistent and expanding fanbase due to his widely-popular mukbang videos; however, in March of 2025, his fans were left stunned and mournful upon hearing about his unfortunate demise.

On his TikTok, a post named ‘Our Grievous Farewell,’ declared that Kultur passed away on the 7th of March, and his funeral service is scheduled for the 8th of March.
According to Turkey’s Turkiye Today news source, it appears that the influencer’s passing was due to a combination of health problems stemming from his weight increase.
On Kultur’s TikTok account, there are videos of the mukbang star confined to his bed due to a condition that left him immobile without assistance. According to Turkiye Today, he was undergoing medical care before his passing.
Currently, comments are disabled on Kultur’s TikTok videos, however, beneath his YouTube videos, there’s a flood of online users voicing their sorrow and remorse over the creator’s demise.
User Efecan Kültür, the well-known TikTok figure who spent his life bedbound, has sadly passed away… May he rest in peace and find eternal rest in heaven.
If only I could’ve shared my thoughts with him earlier, alas, the opportunity passed. Nevertheless, I’m not here to boast; may he find peace and understanding.
Not just culture-based mukbang stars have passed away due to their content; tragically, Pan Xiaoting, a 24-year-old Chinese mukbang creator, died in July 2024, following an overindulgence during a live stream.
Earlier on, there was a conversation between TopMob and Lena Bakovic, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from Top Nutrition Coaching, discussing the increasing trend of mukbang-style content and the potential health hazards it may present for influencers.
Based on Bakovic’s research, it’s been found that Mukbang may be linked to unhealthy eating habits and irregular eating patterns in certain studies involving clinical trials.
She explained that while these videos may seem innocuous at first glance, they often showcase habits similar to binge-eating, a pattern widely acknowledged within the eating disorders community.
