Assassin’s Creed Shadows Will Support Steam Deck At Release, Ubisoft Confirms

Ubisoft has announced that the game Assassin’s Creed Shadows can be played on the Steam Deck starting from its release next week.

In a shift from their previous policy, Assassin’s Creed Shadows – the newest installment in the series, set in Japan – is launching simultaneously on Steam, marking Ubisoft’s first game to do so since last fall. Initially, Ubisoft indicated that Shadows would not initially support the Steam Deck due to its specs falling short of the PC requirements needed to run the game. However, Ubisoft announced a change of heart on March 12, stating that the game will indeed be compatible with the Steam Deck from day one.

For quite a few of you, there has been curiosity regarding the Steam Deck. We’re thrilled to confirm that it will be supported at launch, and we’re now waiting for Valve to provide us with its classification level. Look out for more details in the near future!

As a fervent fan, I can’t stress enough the significance of the update regarding “the pending level of classification from Valve.” This classification is crucial because it decides whether Shadows will be labeled as ‘Verified for Steam Deck’ or simply ‘Playable on Steam Deck.’

Valve meticulously tests games to verify they offer optimal controller support and perform smoothly on the handheld hardware. If a game meets all these standards, Valve designates it as ‘Deck Verified.’ However, if a game doesn’t meet all the criteria, it will be marked as ‘Playable’ on Steam Deck instead.

At the moment, Assassin’s Creed games accessible through Steam are labeled as Playable instead of Verified. If Shadows becomes Steam Deck Verified at launch, it would be a first for this series. Nonetheless, Ubisoft is confident that the game should run smoothly on the Steam Deck platform.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to launch on March 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you can’t wait to get your hands on it, take a look at TopMob’s pre-order guide for more information.
