Aloft Launches First Major Content Update, Adding Plenty Of Critters & Wonders

Prior to Aloft’s Early Access launch on PC via Steam in January 2025, Astrolabe Interactive has shared a game roadmap, outlining various gameplay enhancements, improvements, optimizations, and Quality-of-Life (QoL) improvements planned for Aloft. Additionally, the developer has unveiled new game content for players throughout the year, such as “critters, insects, and beekeeping.”

In preparation for Aloft’s Early Access release on PC Steam in January 2025, Astrolabe Interactive has shared a plan detailing changes coming to the game. This includes new features, adjustments, improvements, and updates that will make playing more enjoyable. Also, they have revealed additional content for players throughout the year, including creatures, insects, and beekeeping.

The latest content (Critters & Wonders Update) was added to Aloft in the game’s first major free update for PC players. The developer has also provided details about this content update through its patch notes, which include various bug fixes, adjustments, and optimizations, along with new additional features introduced in the update.

Making its debut just in time for the spring festivities, the sandbox survival game Aloft has unveiled its first significant content expansion. This expansion introduces new creatures to the Sky Islands, affectionately known as the “Critters & Wonders Update”. Players can access this update via Steam Early Access on PC platforms. As Sky Sailors, they now have the opportunity to meet their “new aerial companions” in Aloft’s world, as these critters are hidden throughout the game.

In their update log, it’s detailed that various creatures such as bats, bees, birds, butterflies, frogs, ladybugs, and worms – among others – can now be spotted in the vast game world. These new additions can appear at numerous spawn points. You can capture them using a net or feeder, or tempt them with food to make it easier before transferring them to their respective islands for housing. New habitats for these critters can be constructed once you’ve obtained the blueprint either from a Knowledge Stone or by drawing its design.

In this latest game update, I’ve found some exciting new additions – beehives and vivariums! Now, I can house my little buzzing friends in these hives, kick-starting honey and wax production. This, in turn, seems to attract even more bees around the hives. On top of that, hives and nests are popping up all over the Sky Islands. Harvesting them yields honey, and occasionally, Queen Bee Larvae! These larvae can be used to craft more beehives, adding a new layer to my gameplay experience.

In my gaming world, I’ve discovered that vivariums can be constructed and set up on my home island to showcase the vibrant insects I’ve captured from these fresh ecosystems. To create these vivariums, I need to find Knowledge Stones first, which will then grant me the necessary recipe. Using my Sketchbook, I can finally build them. It’s essential to note that these tiny creatures play a crucial role in restoring the ecosystem as needed. New small animal diversity has been introduced into the game, and gathering these critters and placing them on a polluted island can help speed up the process of purifying it.

The recent Critters & Wonders Update introduced some adjustments to the Personal Home Islands system as well. This update marked the arrival of “Shared Homes Islands,” which can be accessed using the Home Island kite. Shared Home Islands facilitate a collaborative environment among Sky Sailors, allowing them to construct, explore, and rejuvenate ecosystems together in multiplayer modes without the need for multiple permissions.

To wrap it up, the new addition to this update is the enchanting Wonder Islands. These will be found amidst Sky Sailors’ adventures as they traverse the skies. What makes these islands special is that they are “permanently situated in the world”. They provide exclusive gaming experiences when players manage to find them and reveal their hidden gems, such as mysterious ruins, precious treasures, and other enigmatic secrets.
