Millie Bobby Brown Hits Back at Tabloids Saying ‘She Looks 40’: ‘You Did Meet Me When I Was 10’ and ‘My Face Grew. What Do You Want Me to Do About That?’

Millie Bobby Brown remains vocal about her criticism towards the gossip press, especially regarding comments on her looks compared to her actual age.

In the most recent installment of “Call Her Daddy” podcast, the 21-year-old actress from “Stranger Things” shared with host Alex Cooper that the media often focus on specific aspects about her, such as suggesting she appears older than her age and commenting on shifts in her British accent.

Frequently, people say something like ‘Wow, she looks 40,'” Brown stated. “To which I respond, well, remember when we first met, I was only 10. So it makes sense. Now I’m 21, a decade has passed. As you can see, I’ve grown. It’s not as if I have control over that.

However, Brown said that the constant scrutiny “really actually doesn’t bother me.”

She shared, “At one point, I felt like admitting, ‘Yes, it bothers me,’ but it did bother me, honestly. I tried to alter myself to meet others’ expectations.” Now, however, she’s at a stage where “Sure, my accent shifts. My appearance evolves. I wear more makeup. It’s just who I am as an individual.

On the 3rd of March, Brown shared a video on her Instagram, addressing certain media personnel, accusing them of “harassment” and “scrutinizing” aspects like her appearance, physical features, and personal decisions.

Brown penned in the caption, “I entered this profession when I was just ten years old.” Growing up under public scrutiny, it seems that people struggle to evolve alongside me. Instead, they seem to expect me to remain unchanged, as if I should still resemble my character from ‘Stranger Things’ Season 1. However, because I don’t fit this mold anymore, I find myself being criticized.

In a conversation with Cooper on “Call Her Daddy,” Brown expressed her viewpoint that such behavior is unacceptable, adding that she finds it revolting.

She expressed her disbelief that such an occurrence persists and voiced her desire for action if possible. If she could make a genie’s wish, she would, without a doubt, use it to prevent anyone from experiencing the level of examination they described. She believes this scrutiny alters a person fundamentally; it affects one’s perspective on life, making them suspect everyone’s intentions and question their own worth.

She suggested that “journalists should perhaps be re-taught proper etiquette,” further commenting: “I believe they need to refresh their knowledge on how to interact with others, show empathy, and remember we’re all learning and making mistakes along the way. In my opinion, the double standards and prejudices against women are preposterous.

Recently, Brown has been appearing in various media outlets to publicize her latest Netflix film, “The Electric State,” where she co-stars with Chris Pratt. On a recent episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Brown shared reasons for choosing this moment to voice her opinions about how she has been represented in the press.

Brown admitted that she had been coming up with reasons not to act, such as it not being the perfect moment or fearing others’ reactions. However, she eventually recognized these were just excuses born out of fear. She questioned when it was appropriate for a woman to assert herself, and concluded she couldn’t postpone any longer.
