Beach volleyball is getting ready for a new moment in the sun.
The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) has signed two multi-year contracts with CBS Sports, part of Paramount Global, and Nexstar’s CW. According to the agreement, CBS will air the AVP League Championship of 2025 on Sunday, August 31, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., while additional matches during the season will be shown on the CBS Sports Network. On the other hand, CW will broadcast volleyball games from various locations across the country every Saturday evening, starting from Memorial Day and ending on Labor Day, between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
According to the league’s commissioner, Robert Corvino, the new deals will offer a stage for amplifying this extraordinary sport as much as feasible and ensuring its continuity. During the interview, he chose not to discuss the financial details of these contracts.
Officials from the league anticipate that television audiences will show increased interest in beach volleyball following the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the sport was showcased near the iconic Eiffel Tower.
The AVP stands as the sole professional league associated with beach volleyball, comprising a total of eight teams: LA Launch, San Diego Smash, New York Nitro, Brooklyn Blaze, Miami Mayhem, Palm Beach Passion, Dallas Dream, and Austin Aces.
At Channel W (CW), AVP will be added to a collection that already features the NASCAR Xfinity Series, WWE NXT, ACC football and basketball, Grand Slam Track events. CBS Sports has had exclusive broadcasting contracts for NFL games on Sundays during fall, The Masters golf tournament, and the PGA Championship for some time. Additionally, they share the rights to the NCAA March Madness men’s basketball tournament with WarnerMedia.
