The renowned executive producers, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Mindy Kaling, and Dev Patel, are using their celebrity influence for the global advocacy campaign #StandWithHer, which was motivated by director Nisha Pahuja’s Oscar-nominated documentary titled “To Kill a Tiger.
On Wednesday in New York City, the campaign will begin with the goal of addressing global gender-based violence through a collaboration between Pahuja and organizations such as Equality Now, Equimundo, and MenEngage Alliance.
The campaign against global gender-based violence kicks off in New York City on Wednesday, partnering Pahuja with organizations like Equality Now, Equimundo, and MenEngage Alliance.
Gender-based violence is a worldwide catastrophe that frequently remains concealed in secrecy,” Chopra Jonas remarked in a statement. “I am proud to lend my support to the #StandWithHer campaign, sparked by Nisha’s impactful documentary ‘To Kill a Tiger,’ as we strive to bring about significant transformation.
In this Netflix-streamed documentary, we follow the account of Ranjit, a farmer residing in Jharkhand, India, who bravely pursues justice for his 13-year-old daughter after she was horrifically victimized by three men. Despite enduring societal rejection, death threats, financial struggles, and caste discrimination, the family remains steadfast and ultimately achieves a groundbreaking verdict.
I’ve thrown my support behind the #StandWithHer movement, which aims to achieve three crucial objectives:
1. Empowering survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence to bravely seek justice and support.
2. Cultivating a communal responsibility where men and boys are inspired to become allies in combatting these issues.
3. Advocating for education and social narrative change, with the goal of ultimately preventing gender-based violence.
The launch of our campaign begins with a nationwide tour of “To Kill a Tiger” across significant U.S. cities such as New York, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, and Washington D.C. A screening in New York will take place concurrently with the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, in collaboration with UN Women.
As a fervent admirer, I find myself in awe of Pahuja, whose cinematic masterpiece has garnered no less than 29 awards, graced by recognition at Toronto, Palm Springs, and nominated for a 2024 Oscar in the Best Documentary Feature category. Her vision, which she so eloquently expressed, resonates profoundly: “As storytellers, we comprehend the potent influence of narrative, particularly documentaries, and their unique capacity to rally individuals around an issue. The global quest to abolish sexual violence and gender-based violence demands our collective dedication.
Our campaign plans to join forces with more than sixty organizations and strives to establish educational programs that will impact approximately 1.2 million pupils in around 25,000 to 50,000 schools spread across the United States over the course of the next two years.

The campaign intends to work alongside more than sixty partners and aspires to launch educational projects targeting 1.2 million students in around 25,000 to 50,000 schools throughout the U.S. within a span of two years.
As a movie buff immersed in tales that shape our world, I can confidently say that this story is a significant chapter in contemporary Indian history. With this campaign, we have the unique opportunity to peel back layers and truly grasp its potential to uplift and act as a spark for transformation.
Kaling remarked, ‘This campaign is an essential stride towards a world devoid of gender-based violence, a world we aspire for and are committed to witness during our lives.’
