The eagerly awaited Skate remake by EA lacks a confirmed launch date as of now, but it’s worth noting that the early access version of the game does incorporate microtransactions.
For five years now, Electronic Arts (EA) has been sharing that a fresh edition of Skate is underway. To work on this project, a new studio named Full Circle was established, and they’ve been consistently advancing their efforts in transitioning the game to a free-to-play model.
Even though a few chosen players have been playing the new game since 2024, there’s yet to be a definite release date set. It’s anticipated that it will come out, in at least a partial form, by the end of this year, but no clearer information is available beyond that point.
Currently, developers are consistently enhancing the initial version of the game with fresh content, adjustments to gameplay, and other improvements. Notably, the most recent update, as previously announced by Insider Gaming, has introduced microtransactions into the game even before its official release, featuring the new Skate.
EA’s new Skate game gets microtransactions before a release date
Thanks to Skate’s recent early access update, Full Circle has introduced a system where players can buy the San Van Bucks digital currency through microtransactions. This virtual money allows them to get various cosmetic items as well.
In conjunction with recent announcements, Full Circle stated that this alteration aims to provide players with a “pleasant shopping experience” when they purchase goods from the Skate store.
Since the game is still in its initial stages of development, keep in mind that microtransactions might involve some limitations. With each update, there’s a possibility that your progress may be temporarily reset. When we reach the official early access launch, all accounts will be cleared for a new beginning to accommodate more players joining the game.
In the initial stage, any funds invested in digital currencies are expected to be returned as San Van Bucks later, however, we won’t be issuing refunds in actual currency.

Indeed, it’s not unusual to find games offering microtransactions during their early access phase, with Star Citizen being a prominent case in point. However, it marks a significant shift for the popular skating franchise as it adopts a free-to-play model for the first time, shaping its future in an innovative direction.
