In Act II of Destiny 2’s Heresy Episode, there’s an unexpected development on the Dreadnought. Accompanying the whispers of a familiar adversary in your ears, you’ll encounter a challenge that’s eerily reminiscent of old times. The fresh activity, titled Court of Blades, shares similarities with the original Court of Oryx from Destiny: The Taken King, as it is a boss-rush mode. Let me explain how the Court of Blades operates and what rewards players can reap upon completion.

Destiny 2 Court of Blades explained
The Court of Blades is a challenging gauntlet-style activity for players, featuring a sequence of progressively tougher enemies within a 10-minute timeframe. As you advance through the activity, there are two bosses per stage – one smaller and one larger. When you enter the activity, you’ll have to pick an Augmentation from either of the statues on either side of the room. These Augmentations introduce varying conditions during battles that players must adjust to. Furthermore, multiple conditions can occur at once due to these Augmentations stacking.
In this game, you might come across situations like “Expel” where players must swiftly locate and vanquish three Enchanted Wizards, or else they’ll be abruptly transferred out of the room during combat to a spherical enclosure. There, they will have to subdue an additional mini-boss to break free.
Another scenario is “Hone,” where players will face an invincible Knight guarded by a shield. They must disarm this shield by seizing the swords dropped by lesser knights. Remember that these tasks are added challenges on top of what’s required to defeat the main bosses in each phase.
At the conclusion of the 10-minute timer, players will find themselves back on the main courtroom one final time, before they must open the gateway to confront the final boss. Following the battle against the boss, the rewards earned are determined by how many stages the players managed to complete earlier on. Once a total of at least 12 bosses have been defeated, players will reach the limit for rewards with the Platinum tier, but additional loot can be obtained as bonus.
How to use Armaments in the Court of Blades
After completing each stage of the game, players will be transported back to the Court to ready for the next battle. Here, they can reload their ammunition from the Heavy Ammo Crate located behind three circles in the central area, and make use of Runes they’ve earned by defeating bosses or activating an Armament, before moving on to the next fight.
The statues you see are positioned behind the main room in the hallway, and there are six of them. Each statue is spaced out on a platform or tier, ranging from one to three tiers high. Earning these tiers involves defeating bosses within the Court of Blades and completing augmentation tasks. As time progresses, each tier enhances the effects, such as boosting melee attacks, increasing elemental damage, or amplifying healing abilities. These enhancements rotate during each phase of the Court of Blades, allowing players to select at least one during intermission phases.
How to earn bonus loot in the Court of Blades
After completing the Court of Blades activity, you’ll have the option to save your accumulated Metastasized Essentia, a resource earned from the Nether activity. This will grant you extra rewards like weapons, armor, Infusion Cores, and Sigil Fragments. Towards the front of the courtroom at the end of each round, you’ll find a small, black obelisk that you can interact with. By depositing your Metastasized Essentia into this obelisk, you’ll receive additional loot to be used in the Tome of Want.
You can boost the rewards you receive in the Court of Blades by utilizing the Mysterium section of the Shaping Slab. This is done by placing Runes into designated slots, which in turn increases the quality and quantity of loot obtained. For instance, it could lead to extra weapon drops, a variety of weapon options at the end, and more benefits. Additionally, you may experience perks like enhanced damage resistance, the opportunity to use Sigil Shards to upgrade your Tier during gameplay, and the chance to gather more Essence of Desire from chest rewards.
