Even though the actual 25th anniversary of Devil May Cry isn’t until next year, things are kicking off early next month with a wild start, including the release of an exciting new anime series! A fresh trailer for this series gives us a glimpse into the extreme demonic perils that Dante will encounter as he strives to save the world. Battling hordes of demons is one thing, but his adversaries are also unleashing heavy-duty weaponry in an attempt to eliminate him.
In this trailer and opening credits of Devil May Cry, the music harks back to the early 21st century, with Papa Roach’s Last Resort playing a role and Limp Bizkit’s Rollin’ setting the scene. The storyline follows Dante, who may be mankind’s final hope, as Hoon Lee’s White Rabbit spearheads an attack from the demonic realm armed with enough firepower to overwhelm Earth’s defenses. Yet, it seems that defeating Dante could prove challenging.
In a twist, Johnny Yong Bosch, known for his Power Rangers role, is lending his voice to the character Dante in the series. Previously, he voiced Nero in the Devil May Cry video games. Although Nero isn’t present in the show as of yet, Scout Taylor-Compton’s character, Lady, will serve as a hesitant ally to Dante, despite her uncertainty about him. Intriguingly, at the end of the trailer, Vergil, Dante’s sibling, makes a grand entrance.
In this series, Adi Shankar is taking on a similar role to what he did in the past (which was produced by Studio Mir), a studio renowned for creating shows like X-Men ’97, Harley Quinn, and My Adventures with Superman. The music for the show will be provided by the synthwave duo, Power Glove.
Netflix will premiere all eight episodes of Devil May Cry Season 1 on April 3.
