In a manner reminiscent of mad scientists, the film ‘Dead Lover’ by Grace Glowicki is now set for distribution across North America! This partnership is between Cartuna and Dweck Productions, who are working together under their new joint venture named Cartuna x Dweck. The deal was made following the film’s selection at SXSW, after its premiere at Sundance in January.
James Belfer, founder and CEO of Cartuna, states confidently that we’re just beginning an important era in creative development. He explains that innovative, daring storytellers require distribution assistance more than ever today. This group of producers has chosen to take control of the situation, and we genuinely hope this will motivate others to follow suit.
Hannah Dweck, owner and co-founder of Dweck Productions, expressed her excitement about Grace and her team’s unique creation, saying, “It’s unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed before, and we feel privileged to be a part of this incredibly inventive group.” She continued with high anticipation, “We can hardly wait to unleash this wildly unfettered, unconventional, gorgeous, odorous, resurrected romantic comedy onto the world!
The acquisition of “Dead Lover” marks the most recent advancement in Cartuna’s film distribution endeavor. This venture released the Blu-ray version of the popular slapstick comedy “Hundreds of Beavers” last year and has since sold over 10,000 copies. “Dead Lover” is the first movie that Cartuna has acquired, and it’s also their initial project under a new collaboration with Dweck Productions. Kurt Ravenwood, who is associated with SRH agency and was a producer for “Hundreds of Beavers,” will devise the marketing plan for “Dead Lover.
In “Dead Lover,” Grace Glowicki takes on the roles of writer, director, and lead actress. This film, which combines horror and comedy, centers around a solitary gravedigger who revives his girlfriend using only her severed finger as a macabre medium. Ben Petrie contributes to the script and shares screen time with Glowicki. The movie had its debut in Sundance’s Midnight section, followed by selections at SXSW, International Film Festival Rotterdam, and Göteborg Film Festival. Upcoming showings are scheduled for the Overlook Film Festival and the Los Angeles Festival of Movies.
It’s a privilege to collaborate with Cartuna X Dweck, as fate would have it,” said Glowicki in a statement. “Both companies are strong advocates for unique voices in cinema, and we admire their vision of a powerful alliance producing films with a distinct, innovative style. Ben, Yona, and I are excited to contribute our ideas alongside them in the release of Dead Lover!
The agreement was worked out by Hugues Barbier, Justin Timms, and Joe Yanick from Yellow Veil Pictures acting for the filmmakers, as well as James Belfer representing Cartuna x Dweck.
