BlizzCon Skips 2025 But Will Return In 2026 After Two Years Off

BlizzCon is set to make a comeback in 2026, as revealed by Blizzard, implying that there won’t be an event this year. Typically held annually, the developer’s fan convention will once again grace the Anaheim Convention Center in September 2026 following a two-year hiatus.

Contrary to the traditional pattern, where BlizzCons typically occur in November, the upcoming BlizzCon 2026 has been scheduled for September 12-13 instead, marking a shift two months earlier from the norm. In the official announcement regarding the date change, Blizzard did not provide additional details or reasoning behind this early scheduling, nor did they mention any plans for a BlizzCon event in 2025.

Back in 2005, we took our first step into the gaming world with our inaugural BlizzCon. Fast forward almost two decades, and this convention has been a constant source of inspiration, pushing us to think outside the box, create groundbreaking content, and deliver unforgettable experiences. It’s crucial that we deliver an event that truly reflects the spirit of our dedicated community.

2026’s BlizzCon is set to include familiar elements such as the initial ceremony filled with game updates, detailed discussions about upcoming Blizzard games, competitive competitions, and other exciting aspects, as confirmed by Blizzard. Moreover, they aim to enhance this classic event and provide an unparalleled experience for everyone involved.

BlizzCon hasn’t specified a date for ticket sales yet, but you can visit their official website to stay informed about updates regarding ticket availability.

Last year, Blizzard announced that they wouldn’t be hosting BlizzCon 2024 following careful thought. They expressed that this wasn’t a decision made lightly, acknowledging that BlizzCon is a unique event cherished by many, including themselves. Despite not hosting it in 2024, Blizzard shared their enthusiasm to bring back BlizzCon in the future.

2023 saw the occurrence of BlizzCon, but not so in 2022; instead, Blizzard chose a digital-only event. If BlizzCon 2026 takes place as scheduled, it would imply that only two physical BlizzCon gatherings would have occurred within the previous five years.

Instead of unveiling significant updates at BlizzCon in 2024, Blizzard showcased the future plans for the Warcraft series during a live stream celebrating its 30th anniversary (with player housing featured in World of Warcraft) and shared fresh information about Diablo 4’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, as part of Summer Game Fest and Gamescom 2024. Most recently, Blizzard has detailed the upcoming year for Overwatch 2, introducing its exciting new Stadium game mode.
