Title Announcement: Death Stranding 2: On the Shore, set for launch this year, offers a fresh journey for fans of the 2019 game, immersing them in the remnants of a world where mankind hangs precariously on the brink of annihilation. In December 2022, Death Stranding 2 was officially unveiled at the Game Awards. After years of hints and speculation, the sequel is now full speed toward launch in June. However, despite being almost ready to go, there are still many questions we’re eager to have addressed in Death Stranding 2. Death Stranding 2 platforms
The sequel to Death Stranding, titled Death Stranding 2, is set to debut exclusively on PlayStation 5. For at least a year following the launch, you can only play it on this console. Since Sony has been more open to porting their exclusives to PC in recent times, there’s a strong possibility that Death Stranding 2 will also become available on PC eventually. It’s worth noting that Sony was deeply involved in the creation of the original game, collaborating with Kojima Productions on the reveal trailer via PlayStation Studios Visual Arts.
Death Stranding 2 Story
Kojima is currently keeping secret the plot for Death Stranding 2, but he has shared some details about the game since its initial announcement. The first trailer suggests a new disaster looming as the relentless Death Stranding continues. Originally, Kojima had a storyline planned for Death Stranding 2, but after the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he discarded that plan and started from scratch. In an interview at The Game Awards, Kojima stated, “I had the story written before the pandemic. But after living through the pandemic, I rewrote the entire story from the beginning.
The central theme revolves around the question: “Would we have linked up” throughout the narrative, as we trace Sam’s efforts to form the United Cities of America. Since then, the world has undergone significant transformations. Deliveries are now handled by automation, a potentially dangerous cult appears to be on the rise, and Higgs Monoghan miraculously escaped from the Beach despite being stranded there at the end of the first game. To complicate matters further, a towering samurai dressed in red armor has entered the scene, along with colossal tar-monsters, and new locations. It seems that Death Stranding 2 is set to explore and expand upon the concepts introduced in the initial game.
In the sequel of Death Stranding titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” you’ll embark on an inspiring adventure focused on rebuilding human connections in a world beyond UCA. The main character, Sam, accompanied by his allies, takes on a new challenge to prevent humanity from vanishing forever. Accompany them as they navigate through a world filled with otherworldly threats, challenges, and the lingering question: is our connection what has saved us?
Delving into the trailer uncovers numerous intriguing storylines, such as the world’s condition following additional links, the reappearance of Fragible in a more robust state, and potentially multiple realities to navigate. Death Stranding 2 cast
Kojima has a knack for collaborating with renowned actors, earning him the title of an auteur in the gaming world. As such, he’s successfully drawn some big-name talents to his latest venture. This time around, Norman Reedus will be joined by fresh faces like Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna. Reedus reprises his role as Sam Porter Bridges, while Lea Seydoux (known for her part in Fragile) and Troy Baker (Higgs Monaghan), two characters from the initial Death Stranding, will also be featured.
In addition to the newcomers, film director George Miller (known for Mad Max) takes on the role of Tarman, captain of the DHV Magellan; Fatih Akin plays Dollman, an intriguing character in the series. As suggested by his name, Dollman is a living puppet who will accompany Sam on his adventure and isn’t shy about engaging in conflicts with characters like Higgs. Higgs, self-proclaimed as the particle in everything, sports a bold new cyberpunk look reminiscent of The Crow. Neil, another fresh face, bears a striking resemblance to Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid when wearing a bandana, as shown in the trailer for Death Stranding 2’s release date. Here’s an overview of the cast so far:
– George Miller as Tarman (captain of DHV Magellan)
– Fatih Akin as Dollman
– Higgs, with a wild cyberpunk appearance
– Neil resembling Solid Snake when wearing a bandana.
Returning from Death Stranding
- Norman Reedus as Sam Porter Bridges
- Lea Seydoux as Fragile
- Troy Baker as Higgs Monaghan
New characters introduced in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
- George Miller as Tarman (Performance by Marty Rhone)
- Fatih Akin as Dollman (Performance by Jonathan Roumie)
- Elle Fanning as Tomorrow
- Nicholas Winding Refn as Heartman (Performance by Darren Jacobs)
- Shioli Kutsuna as Rainy
- Alastair Duncan as The President
- Alissa Jung as Lucy
- Luca Marinelli as Neil
- Debra Wilson as Doctor
Will Nicolas Cage be in Death Stranding 2?
It remains uncertain whether the prominent actor from Dead by Daylight will deliver top-notch performances in Death Stranding 2, but it’s reassuring to know that he left a thoughtful message for Kojima upon visiting Kojima Productions’ studio.

Death Stranding 2 gameplay
In essence, Death Stranding initially functioned as a puzzle game where players navigated Sam towards his goal, strategizing the optimal path and selecting appropriate gear for him to safely transport his goods. While it did incorporate action and stealth elements, such as engaging in skirmishes with Mule thieves and ghostly BT entities scattered across the map, the primary focus of the game revolved around the journey itself and the destination that lay ahead. To add a layer of complexity, the game introduced timefall, an unusual weather condition characterized by deadly rain that could seize time from whatever it touched before transforming into harmless water. Prolonged exposure to these storms could potentially spoil a delivery mission.
In Death Stranding 2, the blend of genres seems to have been broadened. Delivering cargo now appears more perilous due to additional weather hazards such as bushfires, lightning storms, and avalanches. To facilitate navigation through this treacherous terrain, it seems Sam will be equipped with a variety of new vehicles and tools like exoskeletons and airborne carriers.
It appears that the fighting has been enhanced significantly, with an array of brand-new adversaries making their presence known. The humans seem more cunning this time around. We’ve caught sight of terrifying clawed creatures in the wilderness, and it seems we might need a considerably larger weapon to tackle the colossal tar-beasts that tower like skyscrapers.
In the upcoming sequel, I’m thrilled that Asynchronous multiplayer will make its return through the Social Strand system. This mechanism in Death Stranding created a sense of unity by enabling us, the players, to influence the game world. By leaving behind helpful items like tools, gadgets, and vehicles, we could positively impact other players’ journeys once they discovered certain regions connected to the Chiral Network.
Though the specifics are still uncertain, if the system is as engaging as it was in the original game, it’ll be a fantastic addition, fostering camaraderie among us as we navigate through this perilous world, helping each other along the way.
Death Stranding 2 soundtrack
The soundtrack of Death Stranding stands out as a significant aspect of the game, offering soothing rhythms perfect for unwinding amidst an apocalyptic setting. Notably, “The Wilder,” composed by Woodkid, was featured in the SXSW trailer and is included in the video you see here. Interestingly, this isn’t the first collaboration between Woodkid and Kojima; they previously worked together to create “Goliath” for the Death Stranding: Director’s Cut trailer. Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that Woodkid contributes multiple tracks to the upcoming Death Stranding 2.
The Scottish music group Chvrches provided several outstanding songs for the game, and although they haven’t received an official request to produce fresh tunes for the follow-up, the band has indicated that they can jump at the opportunity should Kojima reach out to them once more.
Martin Doherty, synth player for Chvrches, mentioned in March that while there’s no formal agreement yet, they’ve both shown interest in collaborating again. There seems to be a subtle negotiation happening at the moment. I don’t want to push too hard and risk rejection by asking directly if we can work together, but if Hideo Kojima extends an invitation, we’re ready to respond immediately since we feel a strong connection with him and believe he understands us as well.
