Thunderbolts* Is Basically an Avengers of A24 Creatives

Gather together, the Avengers form a team that appears to be on the verge of being accepted into the Criterion Collection. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, titled Thunderbolts, is taking a fresh approach with its creative team and marketing strategy, aiming to attract a different segment of movie enthusiasts. Following some difficulties in the casting department, it seems that the project has now found its solid ground. Here’s what we currently know about the production, including the recently released teaser trailer.

Who’s making the jump to the house of mouse?

A number of ex-creatives from A24 are moving to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The director and screenwriter of ‘Beef’, Jake Schreier, helmed the project; he’s accompanied by ‘Beef’ showrunner Lee Sung Jin, who co-wrote the film alongside Joanna Calo from ‘The Bear’, and frequent Marvel scribe Eric Pearson. Andrew Droz Palermo, director of cinematography for ‘The Green Knight’, handled the camera work, Harry Yoon, editor of ‘Minari’, edited the film, and Son Lux, a band that has worked on ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’, composed the soundtrack.

Who’s in the cast?

Similar to numerous Marvel productions, there’s a delightful return of several familiar characters to the cinematic universe. Actresses like Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko are rejoining the cast from previous movies. Newcomers are also joining the team, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, making her Marvel film debut as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, a role she previously played in the The Falcon and the Winter Soldier television series.

Indeed, as we anticipated, A24’s distinctive style is evident in the new marketing for Thunderbolts. However, contrary to what the trailer may imply, this film is not merely about A24ness. Instead, it revolves around a group of anti-heroes who find themselves ensnared by one of Valentina’s traps. To survive a perilous mission and thrive, they must learn cooperation despite their differences. So, Valentina, your intentions may not be so friendly!
