Kaitlyn Dever has been added to the cast of HBO’s The Last of Us for its second season, taking on the role of Abby. For those who have played the game or are familiar with its storyline, Abby plays a crucial part in it. The release of The Last of Us: Part II in 2020 sparked intense reactions to the character Abby, with actress Laura Bailey even receiving death threats, some aimed at her newborn baby. In an interview, Dever expressed that she’s mindful of Abby’s controversial reputation but remains committed to honoring the character and earning fans’ approval.
She admitted to ScreenRant that it’s tough not to come across certain things online, and occasionally she finds herself drawn to peeking at them. However, as she embarks on this project, she’s especially determined to do so. Moreover, she wants to portray the character authentically and make the fans happy by bringing her to life in a unique manner.
In her own words, Dever shared that she collaborated closely with showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann to truly understand and portray Abby’s character. She emphasized her focus on capturing her emotions such as anger, frustration, sorrow, and more. When asked about her response to online discussions regarding Abby, she stated that she primarily channeled these intense feelings in her performance.
Over the weekend at SXSW, a fresh trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 was unveiled, offering fans the most detailed glimpse yet of the upcoming season. Five years have passed since the events of Season 1, during which Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) find themselves no longer seeing eye to eye.
In Season 2, we welcome Jeffrey Wright reprising his role as Isaac, a character he portrayed in the original game. Additionally, renowned actors Joe Pantoliano from The Matrix and The Sopranos is part of our cast, taking on the character Eugene. Lastly, Young Mazino joins us as Jesse.
In contrast to its first season which spanned nine episodes, The Last of Us Season 2 premieres this coming Sunday, April 13th, and will consist of only seven episodes. It’s speculated that there may be additional seasons for The Last of Us beyond these two.
Personally, for quite some time, there’s been a widespread anticipation that Naughty Dog would eventually unveil The Last of Us: Part III. However, Neil Druckmann, one of their key creatives, has hinted recently that such a sequel might not be in the cards. At present, Naughty Dog is immersed in developing an entirely new intellectual property titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a single-player game.
