Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan Says It’s ‘A Given’ That the Next 007 Must Not Be American: I Hope Amazon ‘Handles the Work and the Character With Dignity’

Previously known James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan advocates that the upcoming 007 should be of British origin, given that Amazon MGM Studios now govern the iconic series.

Brosnan stated to The Telegraph that it’s essentially understood or expected that a British actor will assume the role of 007.

Only two actors from outside Britain, Pierce Brosnan (an Irishman) and George Lazenby (an Australian), have taken on the role of James Bond. An American actor has not yet had that opportunity.

He also expressed his thoughts about Amazon MGM taking over the franchise, stating that it “carries a sense of sadness.

I’m thrilled about the latest acquisition where Amazon has taken over full creative control of the iconic Bond franchise. Yet, the esteemed duo, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, continue to hold co-ownership shares in this timeless series.

Despite some expressing sorrow over the agreement, Brosnan asserted that it was indeed a fitting choice for both Barbara and Michael.

It requires significant bravery for them to part ways, as they’ll still be able to express their opinions. I sincerely hope that Amazon approaches this task with thoughtfulness, creativity, and reverence.

I made my debut as Bond in the 1995 blockbuster “GoldenEye” and continued playing the role in an additional three movies, concluding with “Die Another Day” in 2002.

Brosnan shared that he feels honored to have contributed to Bond’s historical narrative and the cinematic legacy we’ve created together with Barbara and Michael.

We significantly improved the situation, we revitalized it. It had been inactive for about six years, but ‘GoldenEye’ was such a hit that it thrived even more after that…You know, things change, they disintegrate over time, and I wish them all the best.
