Florence Pugh Says ‘Thunderbolts*’ Is an ‘A24-Feeling Assassin Movie with Marvel Superheroes’: ‘It Ended Up Becoming This Quite Badass Indie’

Florence Pugh perceives that the upcoming Marvel movie “Thunderbolts” seems more akin to an independent art-house production rather than a typical big-budget Hollywood blockbuster.

Ultimately, it transformed into an exceptionally cool and A24-esque assassin film featuring Marvel characters, as revealed by Pugh during her conversation with Empire.

Pugh’s remarks are supported by the promotional efforts of “Thunderbolts,” which has been highlighting the connections between its cast and crew, particularly their work with A24. The latest teaser showcases Florence Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Sebastian Stan’s roles in A24 productions such as “Midsommar,” “You Hurt My Feelings,” and “A Different Man.

Furthermore, the promo spotlighted “the screenwriters and director of ‘Beef’,” “the film editor of ‘Minari’,” as well as “the music composers of ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once'” along with several others.

Last year at Comic-Con, Director Jake Schreier expressed to EbMaster that “Kevin’s [Feige, President of Marvel Studios] initial objective was to venture in and strive for something distinct.

Schreier mentioned that if you envision a Marvel film crafted by its creators, and picture where their unique styles might intersect, then that’s the feeling we aimed to achieve with our work.

A24 responded to the teaser on X using the “Euphoria” meme featuring Alexa Demie’s quote, “Hold up, is this supposed to be about us?

In “Thunderbolts,” Pugh and David Harbour are part of a U.S. government team alongside Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, and Lewis Pullman. Pullman portrays Bob, whom Pugh revealed to Empire as someone who experiences what the entire team, presumably secretly, might be going through.

Yelena recognizes aspects of herself in him. Throughout her life, she’s been someone who cares deeply about others. She has a particular fondness for him and enjoys taking care of him because he’s not self-reliant. Pugh emphasized that her character Yelena Belova views him as completely incapable.

On May 2nd, the movie “Thunderbolts” will be released, based on a comic book series of the same name by Kurt Busiek. Kevin Feige is the producer of this film, with Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, Scarlett Johansson, and Jason Tamez serving as executive producers.
