As for “Abracadabra,” it seems Lady Gaga managed an extraordinary feat on this week’s “Saturday Night Live” by performing energetic dance routines simultaneously with live vocals during her two performances.
The particular blend isn’t suitable for every musical guest on “SNL”, especially those who are also acting as hosts and participating in almost every sketch. However, Lady Gaga managed to execute it flawlessly with impressive panache (if that expression doesn’t seem offensive to the characters portrayed in the final skit who dislike exaggerated praise).
Lady Gaga graced nearly every part of the 90-minute performance, excluding just two segments: the Trump-themed opening and Weekend Update. However, it seems that the time spent memorizing lines for the skits didn’t impact her rehearsal hours for the two energetic musical performances, which left “hyperkinetic” appearing almost tame in comparison.
Initially, Lady Gaga’s song title, “Abracadabra,” captured attention by mimicking the visual aesthetic and costume design from her crimson-themed music video for this single. In this video, she and her dancers executed synchronized, abrupt dance moves on a reflective stage setup, which made the small Studio 8H stage appear more spacious and resemble a stadium.

The first song by Lady Gaga titled “Abracadabra” stood out thanks to its connection to the crimson-themed music video and costume design for this single. In the video, Gaga and her dancers showcased quick, jerky dance moves on a mirrored stage, making Studio 8H seem larger and more like a stadium.

Lady Gaga’s debut of “Abracadabra” made an impact by referencing the crimson-themed music video and costume design for this single. In the video, she and her dancers performed dynamic, stop-and-start routines on a mirrored stage that gave Studio 8H a larger, stadium-like feel.
Her second song was the real-time debut of a track that had just been revealed to the public about two days ago upon the release of her “Mayhem” album. In this brief period, “Killah” has already gained popularity among fans, due to its throwback funk vibes, so it’s likely that many of her followers at home welcomed this album track with as much enthusiasm as if she had played a well-known hit.
In her second performance, Gaga switched from red to purple – possibly as a tribute to the Prince influence often highlighted in early album reviews for “Killah”. This time around, she transformed a good chunk of the 8H backstage into her own playground, moving through the corridors with backup dancers. A memorable moment was captured on camera from above, showing one of the dancers lying down and kicking their legs. After that, she reappeared in front of the studio audience once more, this time within a mirrored setup.

After an energetic performance in a vibrant purple outfit, it seemed like the end of my singing spectacle for the evening. But, to my surprise, just a few moments later, she returned, this time dressed casually, for a hilarious finale where she sang humorous tunes.
Not only was that not her initial performance during the skits of the evening, but earlier on, she had also sung a humorous rendition of “Wonderful Tonight” alongside Bowen Yang, as a duet.
Gaga’s additional standout moments on “SNL” for the evening included poking fun at herself through an opening monologue that graciously let the writers make jokes about her “Joker” movie and about having R. Kelly as a musical guest the last time she hosted the program.
