Jacob’s Next Move: Where Did He Go?

In the final episode of Season 3 for The Way Home, a twist occurred that contrasted with last season – instead of being located, Jacob vanished without a trace of his whereabouts being disclosed. However, there’s a strong possibility as to where he might be.

Back in 1999, an eight-year-old boy named Jacob wandered away from the Port Haven summer carnival and accidentally followed dog Finn into a nearby pond. This unexpected event led him to time travel all the way back to 1814, where he was raised by his ancestor Elijah.

Later on, Kat finally understood the situation and went to save him. Due to being pursued by Cyrus Goodwin, he was compelled to return to the year 1816, surprising everyone, particularly Del, who had thought Jacob was deceased. In Season 3, Jacob continued to stir up trouble, endangering the family when he attempted to torch Louis Goodwin’s vineyard.

The main point that stands out for me is the mysterious disappearance of Jacob from the final episode of the captivating TV series. As of now, I’m not fully informed about his whereabouts, but I have a few speculations. Proceed with caution as major spoilers are coming up!

Jacob is likely in The Way Home’s 1816 timeline

As a gamer, I’m not beating around the bush here: Jacob grew up in that town, so it feels like he’ll be making a beeline for Elijah in 1816. The reason? The threat that loomed over him like a dark cloud has finally been lifted.

During a crucial moment in the final scene of The Way Home’s third season, a stack of letters addressed to Del is seen on a table, including a fresh one from Jacob. In his concern for his family’s safety, he believes that the flow of these letters will cease if he vanishes.

Sam phones and informs her that Jacob has gone. Sam reassures her, saying “Don’t worry, everything will be alright.” As we switch to a scene of him standing by a pond, he is asked, “How can you be sure, Sam?” He responds enigmatically, “I simply… know.” He gazes out over the water.

As a gamer, I’ve been pondering about the mysterious character named Jacob. The unfolding events in Season 3 hint that 1816 might be his hideout. Here’s why: Firstly, the danger he’s been evading seems to have subsided. Following the Landry farm fire, Cyrus was left critically injured, losing his ability to speak. This could imply that the threat has either weakened or disappeared entirely.

Susanna is managing Port Haven while hiding under Cyrus’ leadership, maintaining control as she pleases. Being an associate of the Landry family, Jacob can return to his old life without fear. He holds a deep affection for Elijah, but seeking revenge in current times hasn’t gone smoothly. Moreover, he now possesses evidence of Susanna’s true will which he can use against Cyrus’ sons.

Alternatively, it’s not just one scenario; Casey abandoned him without revealing everything they knew about the Goodwins and Landrys, slipping away before any questions could be answered. It’s plausible that he might be searching for them now, but this action could potentially violate the pond’s regulations.

After Colton was left alone, it’s clear that Jacob knew the secret discovery Colton made on the day he passed away, which led him to attempt time travel once more, hoping to catch one final glimpse of his son. Is it possible that a gathering of the Collision Theory family could be in the future?

We’ll find out in the now-confirmed The Way Home Season 4, though this won’t be until early 2026.
