Tim Baltz Mastered Pole Dancing for ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ Season 4: ‘I Did Most of My Own Stunts’

For the last season of “The Righteous Gemstones,” Tim Baltz developed an unforeseen talent that he hadn’t previously possessed.

This coming Sunday, fans will get to witness Baltz’s character, BJ (husband of Judy Gemstone), displaying his passion for pole dancing as part of the new season.

Primarily, it was Baltz who performed the majority of the stunts himself. He made this statement during an interview with EbMaster at the fourth season premiere of the show held in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Baltz stated that he typically visits three times a week, spending approximately two and a half hours at each visit. Once he got into a rhythm, he adjusted to going every other day, working out for an hour each time.

Baltz learned from Tanya Christopher, the head of the United States Aerial Federation – an organization that’s among many advocating for pole dancing to become an Olympic sport.

As a passionate movie buff, I’d put it this way: “I was being mentored by a coach who would lead pole dancing into the Olympics, and let me tell you, she was simply extraordinary.

But his preparation started even before he first approached a pole.

Baltz was informed by David Gordon Green, who is both an executive producer and director for “The Righteous Gemstones,” that he should begin doing Pilates immediately due to the immense core strength required for the role. Green’s message to Baltz read, “Hey, you need to start Pilates right away because it’s going to require a tremendous amount of core strength.

Baltz’s actions left Edi Patterson (Judy Gemstone character) in awe, as she shared with EbMaster, “I’m absolutely astounded by the skills Tim was able to master!

Patterson had initially considered teaching Judy pole dancing based on an abandoned concept. However, as the plot developed, it changed, and in her own words, she expressed relief: “Thank goodness, the storyline evolved that way.

She said she found pole dancing to be “so hard and so painful.”

Baltz stated that BJ’s pole dancing expresses his inherent traits: “He aims to exhibit his grace, yet also his strength because he embodies a unique form of masculinity, one that stems from being incredibly loyal and fiercely devoted to his wife, even amidst various hardships they face together.
