As a gamer, I’d be thrilled to share that I, too, am leveraging AI at my favorite gaming spot – let’s say it’s McDonald’s, just for this analogy! You see, they’re working on integrating AI into over 43,000 of their locations. This tech-boost is designed to slash wait times and turbocharge the experience for both me, the gamer, and the staff, making our interactions smoother than ever before!
The updates will commence by integrating smart kitchen appliances connected to the internet, intelligent drive-thru systems powered by artificial intelligence, and managerial tools aimed at enhancing order precision and forecasting potential equipment problems ahead.
In the world of gaming, I’ve learned that speed and efficiency are key. That’s why by late 2023, I teamed up with Google Cloud for an edge computing system. Instead of sending all data to the cloud for processing, this setup analyzes and processes data right here on-site. It’s like having a local server, making things faster and easier on the wallet compared to relying solely on cloud-based solutions.
Brian Rice, who is the Chief Information Officer at McDonald’s, stated that our restaurants can indeed be quite high-pressure environments, according to reports from The Sun.
He went on to say, “There are clients at the cashier, clients using our drive-thru, couriers arriving for drop-offs, and deliveries being made curbside. Managing all of this can be quite overwhelming for my team. Implementing technological solutions will help ease the pressure.
1) The business is also investigating computer vision, a type of AI technology like facial recognition, to maintain the precision of orders prior to them being delivered to customers. Furthermore, McDonald’s intends to expand its devoted customer base from 175 million to 250 million by 2027 through these advancements.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but imagine a time when we’ll have an “AI Game Master” at our disposal. This AI could take over routine tasks such as managing schedules and balancing workloads, giving human game masters more time to focus on the creative aspects of their roles. It’s an exciting prospect that promises to make gaming experiences even more immersive!
In a new partnership with Google Cloud, McDonald’s will enhance their edge computing system to include voice AI technology at their drive-thrus. This initiative is a revamped version of a past project that didn’t yield the desired results initially.
In the year 2021, McDonald’s teamed up with IBM to introduce artificial intelligence software for handling customer orders. Yet, by July 2024, this AI-enhanced automated drive-thru project was ceased across more than 100 of their outlets due to customers expressing dissatisfaction over receiving the wrong items.
McDonald’s is not the pioneer in utilizing AI technology at drive-thrus; a variety of other establishments like Wendy’s, Hardee’s, Carl’s Jr., and Del Taco have been using this technology for their drive-thrus as well.
