Acclaimed post-apocalyptic survival game revamps building looting mechanics. Project Zomboid makes getting resources easier

“The widely praised post-apocalyptic survival game Project Zomboid received another update for the volatile Build 42. The update 42.4.0 introduced several practical features, yet the change concerning looted buildings might catch players’ attention most.”

Despite the fascinating concept of exploring structures for resources in this game, the execution fell short. The primary issue was that the buildings were frequently discovered to be depleted of supplies far too rapidly, leaving those who arrived there with nothing.

In the latest update, the team at The Indie Stone studio has chosen to address a pesky problem by reducing, by half, the total number of buildings susceptible to being defaced or damaged by vandals.

According to details shared on Steam, it appears that basements are less likely to be raided compared to above-ground locations. This implies that players searching for resources might want to focus their efforts on these below-ground spots.

It’s now apparent that the survivors have taken the supplies because of the broken windows and doors that were forced open, indicating that they gained entry.

Should we dare to venture into the ransacked structure, we might stumble upon a “zombie” sporting a survivor’s stolen backpack. If we manage to eliminate this undead creature, the loot from the bag could be ours.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that these zombies don’t show up often, but when they do, it’s like a sweet reward for finding an empty building. The devs seem to be making up for our letdown in some way with their appearance.

In this latest version, 42.4.0, the timeframe for completely ransacking buildings marked as lootable has been broadened from the original 56-day period to a span of 90 days within the game.
