Destiny 2’s New Rite Of The Nine Event Is For Dungeon Newcomers And Veterans Alike

Bungie has revealed that the Rite of the Nine, a special Destiny 2 activity focused on three of its dungeon areas, will soon be available. This event is only temporary.

During the event, you’ll explore dungeons named Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep. Each week, one of these dungeons will change. The gameplay experience in each dungeon can vary depending on three modes: Ultimatum, Explorer, and Eternity. Your objective is to achieve a high score, which is determined by how many times you die. To maximize your score, aim to survive as much as possible. A higher score will result in better quality loot at the end of each encounter. Bungie explained that they’re encouraging players to enter harder modes and not just complete them, but to do so in a way that yields a higher score, superior item drops, and in Ultimatum mode, Adept versions.

For seasoned dungeon runners seeking an even tougher test, there’s the Ultimatum mode. This mode ramps up the difficulty to match that of our game’s hardest content, similar to Contest mode. Each dungeon in this mode will include modifications that tailor or intensify the experience.

In this case, Bungie wants players (Guardians) to think ahead before entering a dungeon or starting an encounter. For instance, having the “Not Swap” mod means you must keep one Exotic weapon equipped throughout the entire encounter without switching it. Essentially, Bungie is encouraging players to carefully consider their approach for the upcoming challenges.

The Explorer mode has been designed specifically for newcomers who haven’t delved into dungeons before. This way, seasoned Guardians can venture in, grasp the game mechanics, and accumulate valuable experience at their own pace. To facilitate this, Bungie has integrated in-game tips explaining the dungeon mechanics, as well as markers to highlight less obvious paths. Additionally, there will be fewer Darkness phases and a short revive timer of five seconds. Bungie aims to eliminate failure penalties and instead foster an environment that encourages players to master these dungeons.

At the start of this special occasion, I, as a Guardian, will encounter the Emissary who acts as the vendor for the event. The Emissary will present me with quests, bounties, and rewards throughout this event. From each dungeon, there are four unique weapons up for grabs. These weapons have been revamped with fresh perk pools, along with brand-new perks. Just like the Into the Light event, as a Guardian, I can align myself with specific weapons if I’m on the hunt for a particular set of attributes.

In the Ultimatum mode, you’ll find enhanced versions of the dungeons’ weapons, called Adept versions. These aren’t just regular weapons; they come with extra abilities (perks) and a stylish upgrade. The Adept weapons not only have additional perks but also undergo a visual transformation. A glittering holofoil pattern adorns these weapons, and intricate Nine symbols are etched into them.

During the Rite of the Nine event, not only will Adept weapons appear, but also a unique perk called Gravity Well will drop on all weapons. Although Bungie hasn’t fully explained what Gravity Well does, they have revealed that it can only be obtained with weapons during this specific event.
