In the realm of video game development, it’s sadly usual that smaller studios face closure if their initial release doesn’t achieve success. Regrettably, Studio Fizbin finds itself in a situation where it must close down, as early as two weeks before the launch of its last production, Reignbreaker.
Through the founder of Studio Fizbin, Alexander “Pepe” Pieper, it was announced on the company’s official website that Studio Fizbin is coming to an end. As per Pieper, this decision is due in part because the development team doesn’t have a new project to focus on once Reignbreaker is completed. Additionally, Studio Fizbin’s parent company, Thunderful, is significantly reducing its internal development work. This means that after 11 years of operation, during which they produced titles like The Inner World, The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk, Say No! More, Minute of Islands, and Lost at Sea, Studio Fizbin will be shutting down.
Despite closing down eventually, Studio Fizbin intends to stay open until their upcoming roguelike action game, Reignbreaker, becomes “the best game we’ve ever produced.” After the game’s release on March 18th, Studio Fizbin will continue to offer support for Reignbreaker while also assisting their staff in finding new positions within the gaming industry.
2024 saw significant job cuts in the video game industry, and it appears that the start of 2025 is proving challenging too. Recently, Godfall developer Counterplay Games closed its doors, and Warner Bros. Games announced their decision to shutter Monolith Studios and two additional studios, also canceling Monolith’s Wonder Woman game project.
