Zoe Saldaña, an actress who has won an Oscar, made James Cameron extremely joyful. The director of “Avatar” expressed his delight over Zoe’s victory by stating: “I was thrilled to witness Zoe being recognized for the exceptional performer we in the ‘Avatar’ community have always known her to be. Her heartfelt speech served as a powerful testament to the valuable contributions that immigrant families make, not only in the U.S., but also in Hollywood.
In her Oscar acceptance speech, Saldaña humbly identified herself as a “proud daughter of immigrant parents” and shared that she was the first American of Dominican heritage to receive an Academy Award.
I’m aware I won’t be the only one receiving an accolade like this. I can only hope,” she continued, “Given that I was able to sing and converse in Spanish for this role, if my grandmother were still here, she would undoubtedly be thrilled. This honor is truly dedicated to my grandmother.
2009’s “Avatar” and 2022’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” were directed by Cameron, who also oversaw post-production for the upcoming third “Avatar” film. He has been a longtime supporter of Saldaña, and was among the first to congratulate her following her Golden Globe win in January.
She shared that while seated among the spectators, she got a message from James Cameron, currently editing ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ in New Zealand. He expressed faith in her after all these years, which fueled her ambition to keep developing as an artist.
Last year, Cameron expressed his opinion to EbMaster that it’s high time for Neytiri’s work in the “Avatar” series to be acknowledged by the Oscars.
The director remarked that he’s collaborated with actors who have won Oscars, and Zoe’s performance is certainly not inferior to theirs. However, since she portrays a computer-generated character in his movie, some people seem to undervalue it, which I find utterly illogical. Zoe can switch from being regal to absolutely wild in the blink of an eye; she’s incredibly fierce. In essence, she is like a lioness.
“Avatar: Fire and Ash” is set for release on Dec. 18 from Disney and 20th Century Studios.
