The tradition of awards season continues unbroken, and Diane Warren maintained her streak at this year’s Oscars by missing out on her 16th Best Original Song nomination to Emilia Pérez’s “El Mal”. After the ceremony, she joked about her consistency with Variety, saying, “I’m as consistent as a… well, let’s just say I don’t deviate!” This time around, she was nominated for “The Journey” from Tyler Perry’s Netflix war drama, The Six Triple Eight. At 68 years old (having received an honorary Oscar in 2022), Warren is already setting her sights on the future. “I’m like the Terminator of the Oscars – I’ll be back,” she declared. “That’s in my Arnold Schwarzenegger voice. I’m coming back. You can’t get rid of me.” In fact, she plans to head to the studio today, saying, “This won’t slow me down one bit!
17th nomination for Warren would solidify her status as the most nominated person in Oscars history without a victory, surpassing sound mixer Greg P. Russell in a complex tie. (Russell’s 17th nomination was withdrawn due to allegations of rule-breaking in Academy campaigning, a predicament that might push someone to such actions.) However, it doesn’t guarantee a win the following year – especially if she competes against potential hit songs from the original Wicked.
