How To Fix the Monster Hunter Wilds Ultrawide Grey Bars Issue

The new game, Monster Hunter Wilds, from CAPCOM, like last year’s Dragon Dogma 2, is powered by the RE Engine. However, much like its counterpart, Monster Hunter Wilds has been experiencing some performance issues, whether you’re playing on a PC or console platform.

The PC edition offers numerous customizable settings, each providing extensive details about their visual and performance effects. Unfortunately, it’s not fully optimized for ultrawide screens, only accommodating the 21:9 aspect ratio. Fortunately, a new update by praydog, REFramework, has been released to improve the limited ultrawide support in Monster Hunter World.

Fixing the Monster Hunter Wilds Ultrawide Grey Bars Issue

If you’re playing Monster Hunter Wilds on a resolution other than 21:9, you might notice black bars on the sides of your screen. This issue can be resolved by using the most recent nightly version of REFramework, which is developed by praydog. Similar to previous RE Engine versions, REFramework offers players greater control over the game, allowing for camera adjustments and access to specific scripts.

  • Head over to the following GitHub link, and click on the MHWILDS.zip under Assets
  • Extract the downloaded zip file in a separate location.
  • From this, you only need the dinput8.dll file. Copy that where Monster Hunter Wilds is installed:
\common\MonsterHunterWilds
  • Once you have copied the file there, launch Monster Hunter Wilds.
  • The REframework window will automatically pop up on the left side of the screen, which you can hide or bring back by pressing the Ins key.
  • Give it a second to initialize, and then expand the Graphics section below Camera.
  • Check “Ultrawide/FOV/Aspect Ratio Fix” under Ultrawide/FOV Options
  • Hit the Ins key to hit the REFramework UI.

This solution should automatically handle the ultrawide problem for you, and afterwards, you can customize the Field of View (FOV) according to your preference once activated. Earlier versions of REFramework used to crash every hour or so, but praydog has resolved that issue in the most recent nightly build, which we’ve provided a link to above.

Credit for developing and verifying the fix is due to praydog. For more information about their projects, you may want to visit their Patreon or GitHub profiles.

With REFramework, there are plenty of customizations available such as unlocking the free camera feature, but remember to only utilize what’s necessary for your gameplay. To uninstall REFramework from Monster Hunter Wilds, just delete the “dinput8.dll” file from the Monster Hunter Wilds installation directory.

To enhance your Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay even more, consider minimizing the overall pixelation, and if your graphics processing unit is robust enough, apply the high-definition texture pack for an improved visual experience.
