Shane Gillis made a comeback as the host of “Saturday Night Live” on March 1 for a second time. Unlike his first stint, this episode didn’t start with him portraying President Trump; instead, James Austin Johnson continued to play the role in the cold open, depicting Trump versus Zelenskyy.
Following the initial segment, Gillis stepped forward to deliver a brief comedy set of his own. He jokingly criticized both Donald Trump and Joe Biden, before likening liberal individuals to infamous villains from the “Star Wars” saga.
This place seems quite open-minded, and I get that being open-minded is fantastic, really empowering. But sometimes, it can be overpowering, much like the Force can be to a Jedi. It has the potential to consume you,” he chuckled.
Despite the audience’s lackluster reaction, Gillis made a humorous remark about potentially losing them a little more by bringing up a joke involving white men questioning their partners about past relationships with Black men. He mimicked a Tinder profile saying, “Have you ever slept with a Black man?” He added that it was an embarrassing question to ask, odd, and even admitted he had done it himself, but wasn’t proud of it.
Gillis told a joke about asking girlfriends if they’d slept with black men on Tinder, saying it’s a strange thing to do. He confessed he did it once but didn’t feel good about it. The audience didn’t seem to like it much at first.
As his speech neared its conclusion, the comedian shared his affection for historical documentaries, particularly Ken Burns’ “The Civil War” series.
It lasts for 900 hours, making it an unfinished marathon for everyone on Earth, particularly women who can’t resist its charm and promptly fall asleep upon watching, as I learned from a Cosby-like tip. In essence, tuning into ‘Ken Burns Presents: The History of the Buffalo’ on PBS is like having a natural sedative.
Approximately a year and a half ago, in February 2024, Gillis initially appeared on “SNL”. It was five years since he was dismissed following the resurfacing of his previous racially insensitive, homophobic, and misogynistic comments.
