Space Marine 2 Dev Apologizes To Players, Says The Game Won’t Become A Live-Service Title

In the initial launch of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 last fall, it was a successful game, yet its diehard players aren’t universally enamored with all aspects of it. Particularly contentious among fans is the prospect of Space Marines 2 evolving into a live-service game, which has become a concern after Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive presented community events as the sole method to acquire limited-time, desirable items. The response from the player base has been so strong that Focus has apologized for this approach and clarified that there are no plans to transform Space Marines 2 into a live-service game.

This week’s community update from Focus Entertainment revealed that they have received some chilly feedback about the Community Events feature, which was introduced as an extra method for obtaining cosmetic items. It seems that many players expressed feelings of fear of missing out (FOMO) related to these events. Let me assure you, their intention is not to convert Space Marine 2 into a comprehensive live-service game. Instead, any items obtained through events will be accessible to everyone at a later time. The purpose of Community Events is to provide a way for the most devoted players to acquire the items ahead of time and not to create unnecessary stress or frustration for everyone.

In simpler terms, what this means is that we need to ensure an effortless way to access those items, but unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case up until now. We genuinely regret any inconvenience caused and are actively working on streamlining the process for unlocking the items, aiming to make the overall experience less restrictive.

To express gratitude towards fans, the Mk VIII Errant Helmet without an emblem will now be offered for free to all players linking their PROS account with Space Marine 2. Earlier, this helmet was intended only for players who had achieved victories in each of the six classes within Operations mode before the conclusion of the Imperial Vigil community event.

Previously this year, Focus Entertainment unveiled plans for major upgrades to Space Marine 2 across 2025. Excluding the game itself, it appears that Amazon Prime Video’s Warhammer 40,000 live-action series could be moving forward, with Henry Cavill set to take a prominent part.
