As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to share some insights from Hololive CEO Motoaki Tango, aka Yagoo. He recently dismissed the notion that AI-powered Vtubers and streamers would ever fully replace human VTubers. Instead, he sees them as complementary elements in the virtual streaming world, each offering unique advantages to fans like us!
Over the past couple of years, VTubing has emerged as a popular trend that many streamers have adopted. Unlike traditional streaming where faces are visible, these streamers employ characters – be they 2D or 3D – in place of their own faces on-stream.
These VTubers, such as Ironmouse, Gawr Gura, Usada Pekora, and Mori Calliope, have paved the path for full-time virtual YouTubers. By the end of 2024, Ironmouse successfully surpassed Kai Cenat’s Twitch subscriber record. However, AMP star regained it later on.
As a gamer navigating today’s digital landscape, I can’t help but notice the surge of AI-powered entities like fake streamers and VTubers garnering popularity on platforms like Twitch and social media. It’s not hard to imagine these virtual personalities gaining even more ground in the future.
Hololive CEO thinks AI Vtubers won’t replace them
However, Hololive CEO Yagoo doesn’t see it that way for a few big reasons.
In response to the frequent query about whether AI might supplant VTubers in the future, I’ve consistently replied that I believe this is not the case. This perspective was expressed in a recent post on LinkedIn.
Yagoo stated that the allure of VTubers isn’t just about the technology they use. Although the technology is undoubtedly impressive and contributes to a better viewing experience, the core of VTubing comes from the human aspect – the unique personality, skills, authenticity, and individual behind the digital character.
The Hololive CEO pointed out that AI-based VTubing may not become popular, as it seems to fall short in terms of showcasing a unique personality.
Essentially, VTubing revolves around bonding, camaraderie, and mutual adventures. It’s all about uniting individuals, a feat that is uniquely human in nature, as he concluded.
