Gene Hackman and Wife’s Death Ruled ‘Suspicious’ in Search Warrant: ‘No Obvious Signs of a Gas Leak’ and ‘Thorough Investigation’ Required

According to an affidavit made public on Thursday, the deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa are being treated as potentially suspicious.

95-year-old Hackman and 63-year-old Arakawa were discovered deceased in their Santa Fe, New Mexico residence during the early hours of Thursday morning, as confirmed by the Santa Fe County Sheriff to EbMaster. Initial reports suggest no obvious signs of foul play, although the cause of death remains undisclosed. However, due to the circumstances surrounding their deaths, authorities have deemed it necessary for a comprehensive search and investigation, according to an affidavit released by New Mexico officials.

The person making this statement (Affiant) thinks that the circumstances leading to the deaths of the two individuals are questionable enough to warrant an extensive examination and investigation. This is because the person reporting found the front door of the house unlocked, deputies saw a healthy dog roaming freely on the property, another healthy dog was near the deceased female, a dead dog was discovered in a bathroom closet about 10-15 feet from the deceased female, the heater had been moved, a pill bottle was open with pills scattered nearby the female, the male decedent was found in a different room of the residence, and there were no apparent signs of a gas leak.

According to the affidavit, a police deputy discovered Arakawa’s body in the bathroom with a space heater nearby, which seemed to have fallen and potentially caused her to fall as well. The officer also noticed an empty, open prescription bottle on the countertop next to Arakawa. The pills from the bottle were scattered around. In the bathroom closet, about 10-15 feet away from Arakawa’s body, a deceased dog was found.

In the mud room, Hackman’s body appeared to have clear indications of being deceased, displaying characteristics such as bloating on the face, decomposition, and mummification in both hands and feet. The deputy speculated that this male person might have suffered an unexpected fall, exhibiting similar and consistent signs with the female decedent.

During the investigation process, authorities might inspect various aspects of the premises, including furniture, walls, plumbing fixtures, or gas lines both inside and nearby the residence. The affidavit also mentions that people exposed to gas leaks (or toxic gases) can potentially experience sudden and unexpected death due to my training and expertise.

In the course of the investigation, authorities could examine various parts of the property such as furniture, walls, plumbing apparatus, or gas lines within or close to the house. The affidavit further notes that individuals exposed to gas leaks (poisonous gases) may suffer an immediate and unexpected demise according to my professional knowledge.
