Jason Statham Returning for ‘The Beekeeper 2’

The buzz continues for the beekeeper — with Jason Statham returning to star in “The Beekeeper 2.”

The Miramax film is scheduled to begin shooting in the fall, as “Nobody 2” director Timo Tjahjanto steps up to replace David Ayer, who previously directed the quirky conspiracy thriller that premiered last January and earned a global box office revenue of $152 million.

In a new role, Statham portrays Adam Clay – a retired government assassin, formerly known as a “Beekeeper” operative, who now runs an apiary. He’s pulled back into his old line of work when a cyber attack threatens the harmless old woman (Phylicia Rashad) who lets him rent her barn.

Tjahjanto, the director behind several successful Indonesian productions on Netflix like “The Shadow Strays,” “The Night Comes for Us,” and “The Big Four,” is currently working on “Nobody 2” for Universal. This project marks his return to a script written by Kurt Wimmer, who also penned the original film.

Besides acting in the movie, Staham will also take on the role of producer for this project, working together with Chris Long who produces via his Long Shot Productions. They’ll be doing this through their respective production companies: Punch Palace Productions and Long Shot Productions.

Statham and Long are represented by attorney Patrick Knapp, while Tjahjanto is managed by WME, 360 Management, and lawyer Mario Rush.

Deadline was first to report news of the greenlight.
