The classic comedy series ‘Roseanne’ is receiving an upgrade to high definition! Originally airing for 222 episodes from 1988 to 1997, this revamped version uses AI technology for remastering. The distributor Carsey-Werner Television announced the restoration on Thursday, and starting Monday, March 3, you can enjoy the improved visuals on cable, streaming, and digital platforms such as CMT, TV Land, Peacock, and Cozi TV.
The remastered episodes of “Roseanne” will have an exclusive live preview tonight at 7 p.m. ET, streamed on Facebook via the official “Roseanne” account. Michael Fishman, who played DJ Connor, will host this event which will also be available for viewing on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok after the initial broadcast.
As per Carsey-Werner, the remastering project merged sophisticated AI technology with artistic expertise to preserve the authenticity of the original material, all while updating it to suit contemporary viewing preferences and technical requirements. The upgraded versions were made from standard definition 4×3 prints, featuring enhancements like reduced noise and grain, color adjustments, stabilization, as well as audio/stereo sound improvements.

Carsey-Werner describes the remastering process as a blend of advanced AI and human artistic skills to preserve the essence of the original content while adapting it for modern audiences. The remastered versions were crafted from standard definition 4×3 prints, with modifications like noise reduction, color correction, stabilization, and improved audio/stereo sound quality.
The restoration work was taken care of by Performance Post, a company based in Burbank, who started the project in summer 2024 and worked on it for approximately eight months. Performance Post mentioned that their AI technique used to recreate authentic audio within the film is analogous to how The Beatles’ “Now and Then” album was remastered with original audio.
Fausto Sanchez, President of Performance Post, stated that our task was to stay true to the authentic comedic vision Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner developed,” he explained. “Our aim was to breathe freshness into the series while maintaining Roseanne’s original spirit of laughter and wit.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that “Roseanne” is making a significant comeback, having been absent from various TV networks (such as Paramount Network, TV Land, CMT, and Laff) since 2018 following controversial tweets by its star, Roseanne. These posts eventually led ABC to terminate the revived version of “Roseanne,” which then transformed into “The Conners” – minus Barr. In March, “The Conners” is set to premiere its seventh and final season.
After the controversy surrounding “Roseanne” subsided, the show returned to television screens. In fact, Cozi TV celebrated its 30th anniversary of the show with a special “Roseanne” pop-up activation at San Diego Comic-Con in 2023.
Paul Schreiber, president of Carsey-Werner’s North America division, stated, ‘This is something fresh that will be delightful news for fans of ‘Roseanne.’ As a classic sitcom with an evergreen charm, we have gathered an exceptional team to create a new high-definition format. This update will attract not only our existing partners in streaming, cable, and digital platforms but also a fresh wave of first-time viewers to this long-lasting series.’
