plain Catching Tiny Monsters in MHW

In Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll spend quite a bit of time capturing bugs. It would be wise for you to familiarize yourself thoroughly with the Net.

Following several hours of battling fearsome monsters, Monster Hunter World occasionally takes a break from the usual routine. Instead of continuously hunting beasts, there are times when you’ll explore the vast landscape, perhaps even capturing a small creature such as a Tracktail Lizard while wandering through the desert.

Dareel, who’s part of our guild and currently conducting an ecological study on the Plains, has given you a task. He needs you to collect a sample of the elusive Tracktail Lizard for him. However, you’ve never encountered this creature before, making it a bit challenging. Dareel has provided you with a side quest called “Dareel’s Research Report” to help guide you in your search.

Tracktail Lizard location

In the vast expanse of the plains, nestled near the northern edge of our campsite, I’ve spotted those elusive Tracktail Lizards sunning themselves in the oasis. If you need help finding them, just take a peek at the map below!

You’ll find out that Tracktail Lizards reside in oases because you can chat with Dareel once more. He’ll clarify that these reptiles require water, making them commonly spotted around such areas. Handily, he mentions that there’s an oasis nearby him.

Establish a destination, hop onto your Secret Steed, and ride towards it. Upon reaching, search for a duo of Sand-swift Lizards in the northeastern part of the oasis.

As a fellow enthusiast, I’d advise you to tread softly and steadily, given their sensitivity to abrupt actions. Keep your trap set and prepared. When the moment is right, take aim, release, and ensnare them. Then, head back to Dareel with your catch.

Upon finishing Dareel’s Research Report, here are the rewards you’ll receive: 10 units of Honey, 50 Guild Points, and a bit of Palico Experience.

How to catch critters

If you’ve never caught critters before, here’s a step-by-step guide on how it works:

  1. Open up the Essential Items wheel.
  2. Select the Capture Net.
  3. Press the aim button, aim slightly above the critter, and then shoot.

If you successfully catch the critter, a notification will appear on the right side of the screen.
