In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is set for his inaugural solo venture with “Daredevil: Born Again,” though it was “Spider-Man: No Way Home” in 2021 that initially introduced the fan-favorite character to the franchise. During this filming, Cox made a surprise appearance as lawyer Matt Murdock. To maintain secrecy, he filmed his scenes in Atlanta. However, taking a risk, he contacted his longtime friend and previous Spider-Man actor, Andrew Garfield, who was heavily speculated to be starring in the movie at that time.
In a conversation with Marvel, Cox shared that he traveled to Atlanta for the filming of ‘Spider-Man’. Upon reaching his hotel, he prepared to go out and sent a text to Andrew Garfield. Since he had read rumors online about Garfield’s involvement in the movie, and considering they are old friends, he wrote: “If the reports are correct, we’re in the same film.” To which Garfield responded: “I don’t think so, man. I’m doing Spider-Man.” Cox replied: “Well, I am too.” And Garfield responded: “You’re not in my script.” However, Cox was indeed included in his own script for the movie.
In a covert move, Garfield had taken up the mantle of Spider-Man once more since his last appearance in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” back in 2014. However, he arranged a dinner date with Cox, unaware that their public outing in Atlanta, close to the Marvel production site, could potentially spoil the surprise for fans worldwide.

After a long hiatus since his role in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” in 2014, Garfield decided to meet up with Cox for dinner. But little did they know that their casual outing in Atlanta, near the Marvel film set, could inadvertently unveil the surprise for fans everywhere.
Cox mentioned that we spontaneously decided to dine together without much thought. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we found ourselves at a table with only two chairs facing the wall. We both had an awkward realization, and to avoid eye contact, we sat facing the wall.
During the filming of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Garfield found himself making numerous mistakes. In an interview with Esquire, he shared an amusing incident from his first night in Atlanta. Specifically, he admitted to ordering food delivery from DoorDash, only to be recognized by the delivery person.
He promptly posted on Twitter, ‘Indeed, I’ve just dropped off food at Andrew Garfield’s place. That guy was incredibly impolite,'” is how Garfield recalled the situation. “In reality, however, I was attempting to maintain my anonymity by saying, ‘I can’t show you my face.’ He demanded my ID even though there was no alcohol involved in the order. I thought, ‘Oh dear! Now people think I’m rude. And they know I’m in Atlanta. I’ve messed up on so many levels.’
