Since the beginning of 2025, Hextech Chests have sparked heated debates within the League of Legends community, following their removal. After continuous outcry from players, Riot Games has officially announced that these chests will make a comeback.
In an update video for developers, it was announced that starting from the update on March 5 (Act 2), Hextech Chests will make a comeback. From then on, players can potentially obtain a maximum of ten Chests and their corresponding keys in each subsequent act.
Approximately eight of the chests will be distributed throughout the open passage, swapping out the Seasonal Skins and the ones rated 1350 or lower. This action, according to the developers, is a direct response to player suggestions received during the past two months.
In simpler terms, you’ll get the last two Chests required for this Act by a yet-to-be-detailed method connected with the Honor system. Moreover, Riot Games has confirmed that these Chests will be similar in type to the ones obtained earlier through the Champion Mastery system.
Hextech Chest reversal marks a major U-turn in policy
According to TopMob’s report dated February 20, Riot Games had firmly stood by their action of eliminating Hextech Chests following a strong reaction from gamers. Their primary reason for this decision was long-term durability issues that they considered crucial in their deliberations.
Following some calls for a boycott of the game due to the decision, it ultimately didn’t lead to substantial actions in the long run.
In a statement included with the reversal decision, Riot shared the following message for players:
