1047 Games, the creator of Splitgate, has shared fresh insights about their upcoming open alpha and additional details on the colossal Glacier map in the game. This vast map is designed to accommodate as many as three teams engaging in intense 8 versus 8 versus 8 combat. For an exclusive sneak peek, TopMob has a trailer available below, featuring the Multi-Team Domination mode set in the Glacier environment.
For those eager to sample a preview of the action in the portal-leaping first-person shooter, you’re in luck! The open alpha begins on February 27 and runs till March 2. This early experience can be enjoyed on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
In total, there will be three new locations available in the open alpha:
- Glacier (8v8v8) – This location is 20 times the size of any map from Splitgate and is full of icy slopes that allow players chain speed from sliding with portal momentum
- Bypass (4v4) – A vertical map designed for high-flying plays, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the sky
- Eden (4v4) – This map has plenty of portal-walls, as well as a launch-portal that can be used for daring aerial attacks
In addition to cross-play, you’ll find several game modes to explore, such as:
1. Multi-Team Domination – This mode involves teams competing to seize control over four distinct areas.
2. Multi-Team Hotzone – Here, players engage in intense battles to conquer a central zone.
1047 Games plans to add two new gameplay modes: Splitball and Firecracker. The Splitball mode is a thrilling two-team arena game that blends the timeless Capture the Flag mechanics with the fast-action strategy of Halo’s Oddball, requiring teams to balance offense and defense at once. Firecracker, on the other hand, takes inspiration from Search-and-Destroy modes, where an attacking team tries to place the firecracker device while the defending team aims to prevent them from igniting their fireworks.
1047 Games shared that the upcoming open alpha will showcase only about one-quarter of the content planned for Splitgate 2 at its full release this year across PC and consoles. In our review of TopMob’s Splitgate 2 preview, we noted that fresh features such as character classes and abilities set Splitgate 2 apart from a sea of shooter games that may seem quite familiar.
