InZoi Director Isn’t Trying To Steal The Sims’ Thunder

For nearly a quarter-century, EA’s The Sims has been virtually unchallenged in the life simulator game market. However, Krafton’s forthcoming game, InZoi, seems to be a strong potential rival due to its ambitious scope and more lifelike characters compared to The Sims’ caricatured avatars. Nevertheless, InZoi’s director, Hyungjun Kim, holds The Sims in high regard and does not consider the two games as competing against each other.

During an interview with PC Gamer, Kim stated, “We view InZoi not as a rival to The Sims, but instead as an additional choice for enthusiasts of this genre. We hold The Sims in high regard because we understand that creating such depth within a short timeframe is no small feat. This is largely due to the complex nature of life simulation games, which aim to replicate the intricacies of life itself, making it challenging to encompass all its facets.

Kim further highlighted unique aspects of InZoi, distinguishing it from The Sims. Besides its lifelike character designs and surroundings, he emphasized that InZoi boasts advanced customization options and AI-powered creative resources. Previously, Krafton mentioned that these AI elements could enable avatars to grow personalities and even empower users to convert a real-life photo of furniture into a 3D model for game use.

Initially planned for early access by the end of 2024, InZoi was subsequently delayed and launched on PC on March 28, with console release scheduled later. At Gamescom, TopMob had the opportunity to test an evolving version of InZoi, where players could perform numerous actions such as transforming into ghosts upon meeting an unfortunate demise. Additionally, during this time, Krafton showcased the InZoi character creation tool briefly on Steam.
