24-year-old British actor Alexander Westwood, who worked in the background cast of Netflix’s “Sex Education,” has been sentenced to 15 and a half years in prison for committing 26 offenses such as rape and sexual assault. These offenses were proven against him in December, but he denied each one. His sentence was reduced by half for 11 offenses because he was a minor at the time they were committed.
The judge overseeing the case stated that Westwood exploited his minor celebrity status to target vulnerable, young girls. According to IMDB, Westwood appeared in 17 episodes of “Sex Education” and two episodes of the U.K. series “Doctors.”
Westwood’s victims included a child, a boy between ages 9 and 10, two teenage girls, and a woman. The prosecutor stated that Westwood had normalized sexual abuse as a child, with his earliest offenses occurring when he was 10 years old and the victim was 6. Between 2010 and 2018, the victim was forced to watch porn, touched, and encouraged to engage in sexual activity hundreds of times.
When Westwood was 18, he played a game with a 10-year-old boy that involved encouraging the boy to touch himself. The two teenage girls went to Westwood for acting lessons. The first girl was abused between November 2020 and September 2021 and was pressured to discuss and act out sexually explicit scenes, in addition to being raped and sexually assaulted. The second teenager was abused from May to August of 2021; Westwood touched her chest and pubic region while she acted out sexual scenes. Westwood’s adult victim was sexually assaulted between September 2020 and October 2021; she was repeatedly pinned down, eventually biting Westwood to escape.
The judge acknowledged the “destructive impact” of Westwood’s crimes on his five victims but also described Westwood as having a seemingly nonchalant demeanor and appearing arrogant during the sentencing. The BBC reported that Westwood smirked during a reading of his crimes.
