Celebrating the 10,000th episode of “The Price Is Right” seems fitting with an extraordinary reward for the contestants participating in that show’s games, wouldn’t you agree? Perhaps increasing the maximum prize for a single game to an impressive $100,000 could be just the thing!
On February 26, the memorable special episode of the renowned CBS game show will be broadcast. A re-run of this episode is scheduled for prime time on March 4. In honor of this occasion, they’ve altered some unique rules for popular games, all centered around a 10,000 theme.
• Grand Game will be played for $100,000 instead of standard $10,000.
• Lucky Seven will be played as Lucky Ten with 10 $1 bills instead of the usual 7.
• Double Prices will be played as usual but include a $10,000 cash bonus.
Any number inserted into the piggy bank will be multiplied by a factor of 10,000, effectively awarding a prize that is 10,000 times its original value. For example, a $1.23 prize would become $12,300.
Did you know? ‘The Price Is Right’, the top-rated daytime series on network television with a staggering 53-year run, holds the record as the longest-running game show in TV history! Here are some interesting tidbits to celebrate this historic milestone:
Since 1972, I’ve been a part of “The Price Is Right” show that has awarded an astonishing $350 million in cash and prizes, with over 9,200 cars included in the giveaways!
Initially, “The Price Is Right” ran for just half an hour. It wasn’t until 1975 that the program extended to an hour-long format. The Showcase Showdown, featuring the Big Wheel, was not incorporated into the show until after its expansion to an hour-length.
• Over 75,000 contestants have been told to “Come on down!”
Twice, an individual aged 99 years old was invited to participate – making them the oldest contender in the history of the game. In the year 2021, a 4-year-old became the youngest contestant on record. Alongside his mother, this young boy claimed a brand new car as their prize after they triumphed in the Lucky Seven segment during Youth Week.
2019 saw the greatest winner on the daytime adaptation of “The Price Is Right” amass a grand sum of both cash and prizes amounting to a whopping $262,743.
• In 2013, the most expensive car won on “The Price Is Right” was an Audi R8 worth $157,300.
The very first pricing game to debut was called “Any Number,” launched back in 1972. This game featured a Chevrolet Vega valued at $2,746, marking it as the first vehicle awarded on the show.
112 pricing games from the show’s history are currently active, representing approximately 70% of the total number.
Host Drew Carey explains that there are three games on his game show he wouldn’t want to compete in as a contestant because they’re the most challenging: That’s Too Much and Stack the Deck, and the hardest of all, and the one he feels least confident about is Cliffhanger, but surprisingly, it turns out to be the easiest.
To celebrate this significant achievement, “The Price Is Right” is generously contributing $10,000 to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). This organization works tirelessly to educate, support, and advocate for the betterment of countless Americans struggling with mental illness. In a personal gesture, Carey consistently emphasizes the importance of mental health as part of his closing remarks at each show.
