NieR Automata’s sequel remains an unfulfilled dream for fans. Square Enix gives them another hope

Yesterday marked eight years since NieR: Automata hit the shelves. The game, featuring the tales of androids 2B and 9S, was met with overwhelming praise from gamers and critics alike. Given this, it’s not surprising that fans are anxiously anticipating a potential sequel, which could be officially announced soon.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the NieR series, and to celebrate, there’ll be a live stream happening on YouTube at 2:00 a.m. PT on April 19th. Square Enix has shared that during this stream, they’ll disclose details about upcoming events and merchandise, along with a mini concert or developer conversation featuring Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito.

Certainly, We haven’t yet received any news regarding the launch of a new game, but it’s clear that this could be an exciting development. It’s not surprising that fans are eagerly anticipating it. This is especially true since during the 10th anniversary celebration of the series, we were given the announcement for NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, more commonly referred to as NieR Replicant Remaster.

A little over a year after its debut on April 23, 2021, there has been little news regarding the continuation of the series. One of its creators hinted at something in the past, mentioning he was working on a new endeavor, yet without confirming if it ties to the NieR universe. Maybe we’ll learn more about this mystery project in April.

In 2017, NieR: Automata initially debuted on PlayStation 4, followed by PC releases a while later. A year afterward, an Xbox One version became available, and in 2022, the game was also introduced to Nintendo Switch users. Recently, it has been announced that over 9 million copies of this title have been sold.
