Streamer ExtraEmily has disputed accusations of using a derogatory racial term in a widely-shared video, following numerous viewers expressing doubts and urging Twitch to respond accordingly.
Emily, who is part of the well-known streaming group One True King (OTK), has consistently seen an increase in her Twitch following, particularly within the ‘Just Chatting’ category.
Occasionally, you’ll find the streams are solely focused on interaction with chat, whereas other times they may involve collaboration with other Twitch broadcasters.
During her live broadcast on February 22, Emily found herself streaming alongside nmplol (also known as Nick Polom). In the midst of their session, Emily made a call and expressed words that some listeners perceived as a racist remark.
It’s worth noting that numerous viewers perceived Emily’s statement as “Nick, uh…” in relation to a question about collaborations with streamers. Emily subsequently confirmed this interpretation and stated that she doesn’t use that particular word. As of the time of writing, her response to the viral tweet had amassed 13 million views.
Wow, has this video racked up 13 million views? I simply can’t hold back my excitement! I blurted out “Nick Uh” and called a friend by the wrong name, which rarely happens – that word is barely used in my life! This app is truly something else.

Later on, she inquired, “What should I do if people assume I’m racist when I’m not? Can you trust me, I did say ‘Nick’… I swear, I don’t casually use that term.
I recently shared a video clip, following the one that blew up, showcasing my stream session with Nick. It explains the momentary lapse in my speech when I mentioned his name, and then quickly corrected myself.

If the internet seems to label you as racist when you don’t believe you are, please understand that this can happen unintentionally due to misunderstandings or misinterpretations. It’s important to take a step back and reflect on your words and actions, ensuring they align with inclusivity and respect for all. Also, consider educating yourself about cultural sensitivities and the impact of language on different communities. By doing so, you can help foster a more understanding and inclusive online environment.

Many of Emily’s friends and peers came out to defend her over the incident, too.
Cinna said that “it’s really easy to look at the VOD and see she did not intend to use that word.”
For some time now, I’ve been acquainted with Emily, and I recently observed a stream where Nick was momentarily absent in the bathroom. It’s quite understandable that, after viewing a brief clip delayed by about 60 seconds, one can infer she mixed up the names and added a “uh” when referencing Nick, as it often happens when someone’s name is unfamiliar or difficult to recall. Additionally, I myself struggle with stuttering during live streams, so I empathize with such occurrences…

Others, like Valkyrae, referred to it as a “regrettable incident” and explained that it seemed to them you had mistakenly said “Nick,” then corrected yourself but followed with an “uh” afterward.
It seems quite obvious that you unintentionally referred to him as Nick, then corrected yourself with an “uh,” followed by tears. I’m sorry for anyone who might not be familiar with your friend named Nick or your unique personality, leading them to perceive you in a different light. This must be quite unfortunate.

Emily hasn’t shared anything new since then, and it seems she was troubled by the accusation of using a derogatory term, particularly as Nick was streaming with her at the time.
