Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Unveils Global Ambitions, Shooting Simultaneously in English and Kannada Languages

The highly anticipated film “Toxic – A Tale for Mature Audiences” by Indian superstar Yash is currently being filmed in both English and Kannada versions, as EbMaster has verified.

As a cinephile, I’m always on the lookout for unique cinematic experiences, and the upcoming project under the guidance of festival favorite Geetu Mohandas (“Moothon”) promises just that. Unlike the usual practice in our industry where films are dubbed in multiple languages post-production, this one is a rare gem being shot simultaneously in two languages – English and Kannada. This challenging approach has been adopted only sporadically in the past, with movies like “Guide” (1965) and “Shalimar” (1978), which were filmed in both English and Hindi, and “Nothing But Life” (2004) in English and Malayalam. The last time such a dual-language production was attempted was with the indie film “Summer Holidays” in 2018.

Mohandas shared that ‘Toxic’ is being made to tell a story that appeals to both local and international viewers. He explained that this project combines artistic creativity with the discipline of commercial storytelling, resulting in a production that transcends geographical, linguistic, and cultural boundaries. The aim is to create a movie that not only provides entertainment but also forges strong emotional connections across the globe.

The filming of this project started in August 2024 and features a diverse group of creative professionals from around the world. Action mastermind J.J. Perry, famous for his work on “John Wick” and “Fast & Furious” series, is responsible for designing the action scenes, while DNEG, who recently won an award for their work on “Dune: Part Two,” are in charge of the visual effects.

The movie, financed by KVN Productions and Yash’s Creature Concept Studio, has been creating quite a stir since the unveiling of its trailer a month ago.

Venkat K. Narayana, the film producer, stated: “Our aim was straightforward – to make a movie with universal impact. We were fueled by faith in this story and its possibilities. Right from the beginning, we decided to go all out, understanding that ‘Toxic’ required substantial investment. We are dedicated to providing a cinematic journey that will showcase Indian cinema on an international platform.

As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that “Toxic” isn’t just limited to its English and Kannada versions. It’s going to be dubbed in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam! This means it will reach a vast audience across the Indian subcontinent, and with that, it’s gearing up for international markets too. The dual-language filming process has required longer shooting times, making it one of India’s costliest productions yet.
